Yea I'm old. I have entered the "get off my lawn" phase of my life.
I've started talking to myself because I'm the ONLY one that really knows.
The 80s were so brown... many "Love is..." cartoons on fridges, ashtrays everywhere, framed copies of that shitty "footprints" poem in bathrooms all over the country, american cars were outshittied only by british and Italian cars, and Randy Savage was talking about cups of coffee in the big time.
I had a keen sense, even then, that it was a great decade. I think human civilization peaked in 1986. The enshittification began in 1981 (thanks Ronnie), but our momentum kept us going on the upwards trajectory until about when Baby Jessica fell down that well.
Nope. The correct answer is the world peaked at the height of my child/teenhood. Ask anyone and they would agree.

Europe peaked a litt bit later IMO, like the top was 1995. So much good music (including all the hood music already out there), best videi game era, less wars, economy good...

Some parts of the ‘80s I’m jelly of, like the not expecting to be reachable constantly, seeming relative ease of getting a job, and arcade culture.
I wouldn’t want the no ozone layer, super high (for the time) milk prices, and crappy video games, though, amongst other things. I have a lot of respect for my loved ones who got through it.
And don't forget the constant threat of nuclear annihilation. While political tensions were easing, there were several occasions when we almost all died because someone fucked up or some gadget did something unexpected or some part failed that had cost pennies.
Yeah, shit creeps up on you.
