In China the government can force you to leave your village so they can tear it down to build more industry. They will offer you below market value for your house. A market value which has already declined drastically because your location has no future, fucking you over twice.

Except this isn't China but wholesome The Netherlands instead.

Police has once again launched water canons at a peaceful protest for Palestine. This time we were even at the right location.

In order to keep the entrance to certain streets a certainty, which was the reason for the rejected protest place, the police blocked all the entrances themselves with their stormtrooper ass performance tonight.

I fucking hate Americans so much. My countrymen are completely insufferable.

Criticize Republicans and you're a Democrat; criticize Democrats and you're a Republican.

Nothing else exists. Two parties, two ideologies, two worldviews, two moral compasses, two philosophies, two of goddamn everything. Nothing more, nothing less.

I fucking hate it here so much.

Now imagine that same discourse, while playing telephone, make it ''en Español'', and you have Puerto Rico.

I feel you. It's sad that they don't understand that when they reflexively bring up the other party (or parties) they're Falling For It.
Like... we are so past partisan politics and electoral solutions lol. Even in Canada I have to hear this donkey shit about the alternate universe where the conservatives won and how it'd be worse when I'm being fucked over by the banker factions NOW, in this timeline.
"Sure they're promising to gut everything and build new pipelines and give handouts to Bay street and turn their bureaucrats into soliders (HUGE LOL btw) but PP would've licherally made Handmaid's Tale real!1!" not mad

“evil see see pee has breadlines”

What? You mean that there are dedicated community services fully financed by the state to feed the community actual shelf-stable food that isn’t spoiled or expired? It’s free too and accessible to anyone not just church-members or specific townships? Sounds better than America.

“people disappear in evil see see pee”

woah, wonder what ICE is doing these days.

“You don’t have freedom in evil see see pee”

Don’t make any Charlie Kirk jokes or your employment is subject to scrutiny!

“social credit score”

economic credit score

“apartments are only 15ft by 15ft big, standing room evil see see pee”

sounds better than a closet you pay 200 dollars a month for to live in

Why is that evil china propaganda sounds better than most living conditions American proles live in?

[–] Commiejones@lemmygrad.ml 11 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

In China they hunt down homeless people... and give them a place to stay and help them get back on their feet.

[–] 666@lemmygrad.ml 10 points 3 weeks ago

No for real though, when I'm sitting there explaining actual poverty and bring up China, motherfucking chauvinistic fucks have to sit there and remind me of the "freedomless see see pee" as if anything they describe in their worst propaganda nightmares is any less dehumanizing than the actual cold-hard capitalist reality that they live in. "oh uh would you like it if the government picked out a job for you?"

Sure! Sounds great! Maybe my actual aptitude for dealing with production machinery and facilities maintenance will actually contribute to something other than jocking a gas station register!

Diplomatic relations have strained between socialist Lemmy instances Hexbear and Lemmygrad as /c/chapotraphouse@hexbear.net, one of Hexbear's most active and influential communities, ceases federation with Lemmygrad.

The seizure in federation was first noted by Lemmygrad user @Saymaz@lemmygrad.ml, who submitted an inquiry to the Embassy of Hexbear on Lemmygrad.

"For some reason the chapotraphouse comm [sic] isn't federating with lemmygrad."
-Hexbear moderator @thelastaxolotl@hexbear.net confirms.

As of the time of writing, no definite cause for the issue has been made public.
Lemmygrad and Hexbear admins are yet to provide an official statement.

Update:
Lemmygrad and Hexbear admins, @GrainEater@lemmygrad.ml and @CARCOSA@hexbear.net respectively, have confirmed that the issue regarding /c/chapotraphouse@hexbear.net's federation with Lemmygrad is not intentional.

"We have not deliberately defederated from any Hexbear community. This is likely just a bug."
-GrainEater

"There was nothing done on hexbear’s end from either mod or admin with regard to the federation of c/chapotraphouse@hexbear.net"
-CARCOSA

The root cause of the disruption is still under investigation.

P.S.This comment is mainly a joke. While the federation issue and comments are real, I'm just dramatising for fun.

[–] GrainEater@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 4 weeks ago

We have not intentionally defederated from any Hexbear community (I don't even know if it's possible to do at a community level with an unmodified backend), and neither has Hexbear according to at least one admin. This is likely just a bug.

Not gonna lie people are dumb as shit and fall for the easiest propaganda possible. A TV station aired a 'documentary' on people getting unemployment benefits and found two people who were willing to say, on camera, that they do not WANT to work. And people fall for it and say we need to destroy the welfare system. Based on TWO PEOPLE.

I could also create a documentary of my job which is also in the same welfare system and paint an entirely different picture but that won't get tv time.

Got a few days off the job this week. Which is good as I could feel my sanity slipping away with every living second there. I can use the days off to read my new Star Wars EU novels which I am looking forward to.

Keep yer mental health steady. Communism will win.

there is large discussion on the korean left about china. many see them as a model of efficiency, while others are quick to point out their contradictions, particularly their overseas investments in real estate in korea. in my opinion, these questions are there to obfuscate the primary contradiction that is the military occupation of the united states.

another day, another struggle!

Also, at this point, for the Belgian government, I hope the drones are Russian or military. Because it painfully exposes how incompetent this country's defence is. Yesterday five drones managed to hover over a nearby nuclear facility without being detected or taken down. For over an hour.

Or this is the point and it will be used to further military spending.

[–] Horse@lemmygrad.ml 10 points 1 month ago (1 children)

imagining a very confused phone call

"General Kobylash, how goes our probing of Belgian defenses?"
"Mr President, they uhhhh... seem to be just letting the drones just... hover there"
"Over the nuclear facility?"
"Yes"
"How many drones made it to their target?"
"All of them"
"And they haven't made any attempt to shoot them down?"
"No, they are just sort of... staring at them, it's a little odd"
"Are we absolutely certain the Belgians actually have an air force?"

[–] SlayGuevara@lemmygrad.ml 8 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

One of the funniest exchanges I read about this ordeal was between defence and the police. Apparently defence filed a report at the police because drones were flying over their base but since the police is also the victim of budget cuts, the handling of the report might take weeks. This is a national security breach of basically the highest order lol.

I can only imagine the feedback at the Russian side being like how you described above

[–] KrupskayaPraxis@lemmygrad.ml 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)
[–] SlayGuevara@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 1 month ago

Apparently the Belgian army has a specialized anti drone team that has not been called to action, so it is suspicious.

[–] cfgaussian@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago)

I don't understand how the Russians are supposed to be doing this all the way over in Belgium. Not only is it pointless, it would be an extreme waste of resources. Not even of the drones themselves but of the human resources.

If they have agents embedded in Western Europe why would they be so stupid as to waste those assets on such pointless stunts that only help the Europeans increase the level of paranoia and militarization? What do they realistically even gain from it? There are much better ways to gain intel that is actually relevant to Russia.

The dysfunction of Belgian drone defenses is totally irrelevant to Russia, they aren't ever going to need to drone strike Belgium. If they were to probe NATO defenses they would do it in the Baltics, Romania and Poland, where they may actually need to strike at some point.

And why would they risk their agent network being burned on such a childish stunt? It's not like it's impossible (for a competent country) to find out from where the drones are being flown. People have been arrested before for flying their hobby drones over restricted areas in many other countries.

So, sorry but the "Russia theory" makes zero sense and anyone who continues to insist that this is a serious possibility just loses credibility in my eyes.

Was back in The Netherlands to fix some stuff today and the mentality between The Netherlands and Belgium considering Ukraine continues to amazed me. On a few occasions now I have heard people in the wild having a discussion about Russia invading 'any time soon' over here. Not once have I heard people discuss it back home in Belgium. Like people are legit scared Putin will show up in Oldenzaal anytime soon. Not that Belgium is perfect on this but people are at least less scared it seems.

I can't help but notice that a lot of cities have military bases inside them. To me it seems like these civilians are being used as a human shield and their lives are being threatened because the ruling class doesn't care about them

Prediction: The AI bubble will pop moments after Ukraine collapses.

[–] 666@lemmygrad.ml 8 points 4 weeks ago

That's actually what I've been thinking as well. A lot of A.I shit is jacked directly into defense spending, even if it isn't directly contracted out by "Defense companies" (excluding Palantir) but by defense contractor's favorites like Nvidia, Google, etc.

With the Ukraine war nearing the end, I genuinely think they're going to need to keep the wars up to prevent the bubble from popping. Venezuela is on the menu for that.

Comrades, New Bridge Collapse In China, Already the MSM is Mass Reporting This collapse, and off course..

Do not Look at The comment section and replies of the Bridge Collapse in Social Media, it is Dogshit

[–] cfgaussian@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Landslide, by the way. Natural disaster, not structural engineering failure. But that kind of "detail" is of course not going to be mentioned.

I could point to several bridges no more than 100km away from me that collapsed during the severe flooding we had in Germany in 2021. And some of them are still not rebuilt.

Shit happens when you have natural disasters, what's important is how you deal with it. China closed the bridge just in time and avoided any casualties.

How much do you want to bet China will rebuild the bridge, if not in this exact place then just a little further away over the same valley within a year at most?

ok I've finally swallowed my pride and decided to just ask here: how do you create line breaks on Lemmy?? I feel like I've tried everything

[–] GrainEater@lemmygrad.ml 9 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago) (1 children)

Two spaces at the end of a line adds a line break, as does a backslash followed by a newline. Two newlines adds an empty line. Example:

new paragraph
new line
new line

The "view source" button shows the Markdown used for a post or comment.
