The way that alien species are essentialized - Ferengi are greedy space capitalists (with bonus antisemitic tropes hooray), Vulcans are emotionless and brainy, romulans are calculating and cruel, Klingons are violent and honour obsessed, is a serious L for a franchise that's mostly pretty cool.

It's ultimately still an American show. Y'know, the country where they think orange cats are a separate species.

americans invented racism for cats out of thin air, entirely unprompted. go look at the way they talk about different fur patterns/colors for cats.

I think black cats had a pretty long stretch of being treated as omens of bad luck.

Edit: I guess that's just discrimination instead of like, phrenology

yeah, that's some kind of old superstition, but the modern strain is straight up essentialized traits being pushed on ordinary cats with specific fur coloration. like, "oh torties are always like that!" and "what an orange thing to do!" and "typical tuxedo cat behavior, mine is just like that!"

it's insane.
