Bro, the ancient humans were weird

[–] Saeculum@hexbear.net 2 points 1 day ago

I mean, it's a humanoid robot and the majority of humans have boobs.

but it won't be folding your laundry any time soon

Real journalism (tm) to say this specifically about the fem-appearing robot. agony-shivering

Try not to make servant software/objects look/sound like women challenge (apparently impossible).

To clarify, folding laundry is currently one of the ONLY tasks that humanoid robots are good at. Anything more complex than that and they’d fail miserably.

The Xpeng humanoid robot’s selling point is in its smooth human-like motion and gesture, but so far they have only achieved the gesture part and haven’t been able to perform any sort of functional tasks.

The headline isn’t wrong because the competitions are the top-of-the-line “laundry folders” at this point.

The real struggle session will be when the humanoid robots become capable of stacking rocks reliably.

[–] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 9 points 1 day ago

stacking ~~rocks~~ socks

[–] Awoo@hexbear.net 21 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I don't really care, it's a cool af robot. I look forward to the day we can FPV pilot these with VR headsets. One day there will be robo conventions like furry conventions. One day there will be furry characters at your furry convention with robots piloted by a dude still in their hotel room. I'm not even sure if "piloted" is the correct word for this.

Hopefully that starts out as an option for disabled. A quadriplegic being able to use a bot as an avatar. A wheelchair user being able to pick up their own body using a robot.

[–] RNAi@hexbear.net 3 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Yes yes, but instead of focusing on all that they chose to show you can put tits in this shinny new mechanic slave

[–] Awoo@hexbear.net 13 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Yeah it gets more attention unfortunately. I get more attention with tits than I did without too. I don't actually mind the form though, the sexualised gooner walk is where it goes too far, imitating the appearance of a woman is not a problem by itself unless all robots should be male or androgynous because the mere sight of a woman's form is sexual.

[–] Horse@lemmygrad.ml 10 points 1 day ago

tbh i think the sexy walk was a pretty good demo of the smoothness of the robot's motion

That’s literally the selling point of the Xpeng’s humanoid robot. They’re not competing with the other companies that are already far ahead, they’re focusing on emulating natural human-like gestures such that their robots can function as human companions, not just machines doing mechanical tasks.

And if you pay attention to the clips found on Chinese social media, that’s where things are heading at the moment.

[–] RNAi@hexbear.net 1 points 1 day ago

Ooh they have always explicitely targeted gooners, ok "fair"

[–] cassandrafatigue@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Do you not want your slaves to have great tits? What century are you even from?

[–] Crucible@hexbear.net 32 points 2 days ago (1 children)

They walking style they gave it is also like the walking animations of women in a horny video game

[–] Moidialectica@hexbear.net 25 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Now I'm curious, does anyone have a video link

This seems entirely reasonable to me, I expected WAY more exaggerated. I walk like this naturally because of how my center of gravity and muscles end up working out.

If one is attempting to showcase graceful, smooth movement, then I think this is a reasonable enough walk cycle to design the robot with, it's quite impressive in that regard.

[–] Keld@hexbear.net 16 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

That robot has a weakened gluteus medius bilaterally.

Why give robots a trendelburg gait?

spoilerSeriously though, I thought it was much worse given how you described it.

[–] Evilsandwichman@hexbear.net 9 points 2 days ago

I want to crack a dark joke about this video out of frustration, but basically I see this guy's sentiment echoed in people protesting for Gaza, protesting and making content to show Gazans are people like the rest of us.

When Africa rightfully rises in the future as a powerhouse, alongside China, and Western powers get left to lie to one another about ourselves in the dark, it'll be a bright century (It's crazy to me that Africa, with all its resources, are just funding the rise of Europe and being forbidden from raising themselves. The ability of modern weaponry and technology to forever keep nations stunted is deeply upsetting)

I found a YouTube link in your comment. Here are links to the same video on alternative frontends that protect your privacy:

Look, if the booba gives it more battery life, why not.

[–] Owl@hexbear.net 4 points 1 day ago

boobery life

[–] vovchik_ilich@hexbear.net 18 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Don't take away my future of gay android booba communism :(

This answers dubois-dance question. Yes, women are bourgeois

Boobs are bourgeois, booba are proletarian

[–] buttwater@hexbear.net 16 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I'm still of the belief that they hired an amputee to wear a robot suit

[–] lib1@hexbear.net 18 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Even if that was just an amputee wearing a prosthetic, it seems like an excellent prosthetic

Also they managed to maintain the exact same gait and posture for the whole presentation. Including the exact same small hiccups in hand movement.

[–] blunder@hexbear.net 15 points 2 days ago (1 children)

i just kinda wish all my humanoids were human beings

[–] AntiOutsideAktion@hexbear.net 10 points 2 days ago
[–] chgxvjh@hexbear.net 8 points 1 day ago

It's for balance, I'm sure

[–] LadyCajAsca@hexbear.net 8 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I just don't get it, isn't it more like.. 'aerodynamic' or something for have an androgynous robot body for a bot that isn't specifically for sex?

Well, I guess I have no context to what the booba even does since I skipped through the video containing this but whatever, gooners are probably the market anyway

[–] plinky@hexbear.net 13 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

it might be it's less threatening and invokes mommy (works for all genders tbh), and sexualization is distant consideration.

although one might think grandma bodytype would fit even better, if those were considerations outside of weird gooning. or big bellied grandpa, go whole hog on friendly archetypes and you can fit lots of shit in that.

[–] RNAi@hexbear.net 12 points 1 day ago

Yeah I have a male sex robot cuz it's more ærodynamically efficient
