  1. Be respectful: no harassment, hate speech, bigotry, and/or trolling.
  2. Encourage conversation in your OP. This means including heavily implicative subject matter when you can and also engaging in your thread when possible.
  3. Avoid controversial topics (e.g. politics or societal debates).
  4. Stay calm: Don’t post angry or to vent or complain. We are a place where everyone can forget about their everyday or not so everyday worries for a moment. Venting, complaining, or posting from a place of anger or resentment doesn't fit the atmosphere we try to foster at all. Feel free to post those on !goodoffmychest@lemmy.world

I'm all for masking but I'm sitting across from someone doing this, and almost 6 years later haven't we learned anything?

No, no we haven't. Our species really shows how many of us are just... primates wearing pants.

I went to a play recently, and I deliberately chose the performance where masks were required to be worn by the audience. Still had a dick-nose next to me, had to ask him to wear his mask properly twice.

If you don't want to wear a mask, don't attend a "masks mandatory" play, asshole.

[–] BonesOfTheMoon@lemmy.world 4 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Where on earth can this still happen?

[–] aramis87@fedia.io 16 points 4 months ago (1 children)

It's a community theatre, and they have one performance of each play they perform be mandatory-masks. One performance, out of maybe 20 performances in a run, and still there are assholes ...

[–] Mesophar@pawb.social 3 points 4 months ago

At this point they aren't assholes, they are idiots. They genuinely think they are wearing it the right way, it isn't from disdain for wearing the mask.

People were never fully informed or educated, so what got accepted is much harder to undo (from habit and from just approaching the topic without a backlash). I noticed both improper mask wearing and the early improper glove use for contact when it was speculated a danger, but I had been taught haz material cleanup so knew a bit more than the average person. What got me was medical personnel who wore it wrong. THEY should know better.

Masking is optional out here, doing it wrong makes people look like idiots. They don’t have to wear one.

[–] atopi@piefed.blahaj.zone 2 points 4 months ago

They may just not know that they are supposed to wear it on their nose

[–] Kyle_The_G@lemmy.world 8 points 4 months ago (1 children)

this is the new "could care less", idk why it bugs me so much.

[–] Goretantath@lemmy.world 16 points 4 months ago

Because it makes the mask pointless since air still goes in and out your nose a bit while breathing through your mouth. Its like they are purposefully trying to rub it in your face that they only care about themselves.

Ngl I just take it to mean it’s not about infection control (it makes no sense) and that maybe they’re shy or paranoid.

[–] DriftingLynx@lemmy.ca 5 points 4 months ago

I always figure it's simple incompetence.

[–] CannonFodder@lemmy.world 5 points 4 months ago

If they're mouth breathers, then maybe it makes sense.

[–] dohpaz42@lemmy.world 5 points 4 months ago

Consider it a sign to tell which people to avoid like the plague.

[–] UncleArthur@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Perhaps they're more concerned about infecting others than catching something?

[–] BonesOfTheMoon@lemmy.world 16 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Well that's not going to work with your nose out, in either direction.

Maybe it's like a safety blanket thing. Makes them feel better than having nothing.
