What a weird fucking article. Dude acts like he's cracked the code on "gooning" and breaks it down to this strange, cult-like movement. It's just slang for sexual obsession. That's it.
Big "the hacker known as 4chan" energy from this article.
This community is first and foremost a feminist community for men and masc people, but it is also a place to talk about men’s issues with a particular focus on intersectionality.
Everybody is welcome, but this is primarily a space for men and masc people
Non-masculine perspectives are incredibly important in making sure that the lived experiences of others are present in discussions on masculinity, but please remember that this is a space to discuss issues pertaining to men and masc individuals. Be kind, open-minded, and take care that you aren't talking over men expressing their own lived experiences.
Be productive
Be proactive in forming a productive discussion. Constructive criticism of our community is fine, but if you mainly criticize feminism or other people's efforts to solve gender issues, your post/comment will be removed.
Keep the following guidelines in mind when posting:
Assume good faith
Do not call other submitters' personal experiences into question.
No bigotry
Slurs, hate speech, and negative stereotyping towards marginalized groups will not be tolerated.
No brigading
Do not participate if you have been linked to this discussion from elsewhere. Similarly, links to elsewhere on the threadiverse must promote constructive discussion of men’s issues.

I was aware of the phrase and roughly what it was about. I had no idea about the Discord and some of the shared practices. I guess a lesson in not looking too deeply into the darker corners of the internet.
That's because the Discord in question and these supposed shared practices are thing a particular circle of friends maintain and do. Not something that is representative of a widespread cultural group.
There's no spiritual movement about masturbating for hours to reach a state of Goonvana, or whatever the fuck this garbage article wants to call it. There's just people who are sick of being shamed for masturbating and otherwise celebrating sexual attraction to icons, so they've created a term to function as a point of counter culture. That's it. This article tries to paint it as this unique, organized, wide-reaching cultural movement, and it's just not.

The Kama Sutra disagrees.
Well that was a wild article. There is a bittersweet thread about how the internet enables communities for all sorts of people to form but also the nihilistic obsessions fueled by deliberate overstimulation to reach a mythical state where ego and self completely disappear.
Not super familiar with this community so far. Y'all chill to talk about how the way that men are socialized is conducive to dependency on emotionally suppressed sexual socialising? Like, there's pretty good explanations for why men stim with porn so much and why they feel comfortable seeking out sexual social interactions than something more "genuine."
Also helps explain why so many gooners happen to be chuds.
One: yes, that's a perfectly suitable topic for this community.
Two: what's a chud?
A chud is a fascist. So, in reference to the amount of racism fetishization porn, transphobia, regular ol' misogyny, incels, etc.
Thanks.
