Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

They looked like Nazis but I gave the benefit of the doubt. Then I noticed his bike.

probably got a government gig recently

[–] JoMiran@lemmy.ml 47 points 1 week ago

It wouldn't surprise me.

[–] RagnarokOnline@programming.dev 48 points 1 week ago (4 children)

What the fuck is this even a picture of? A space marine pauldron?

[–] BogusCabbage@lemmy.world 43 points 1 week ago

A motorcycle. I don't know exactly what make and model, but I would guess to be something Suzuki, but you're looking at the front of the bike, with the light at the bottom, and the SS is stuck behind the wind deflector, or "windshield" as some might refer to it as. Picture might help give an idea.

[–] assembly@lemmy.world 30 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Wild guess but I’m thinking Suzuki GSXR. They also have a bad rep in the motorcycle community due to the people that have bought them.

[–] mokus@lemmy.blahaj.zone 21 points 1 week ago (2 children)

One of my brother’s friends bought one back in high school and within a couple weeks he was medevac’d from a major freeway by helicopter

[–] assembly@lemmy.world 19 points 1 week ago

It’s something about the reputation. All of those super sport bikes are insanely powerful but it always seems like the worst people to own them are riding GSXRs (we called them Gixxers). I used to race (on a track) and we would see racers come in with second hand GSXRs that had been repaired from accidents, totaled, sold by insurance, and turned into track bikes.

In high school?! Shit… Good thing we have a more sane system in Germany about bikes specifically. You can't just legally drive a high-performing bike when you're young, you have to work your way up from AM (45kmh, 4kw, 50cm³, as early as age 15), then A1 (11kw, 125cm³, 16 years old), A2 (35kw, 18 years old) to A (unlimited, 20 years old if you got A2 for at least 2 years). Only if you're age 24 or older you can go directly to A as it's assumed you're adult enough, and well, freedom and all.

Still, too many people drive superbikes on the Autobahn like they're living in GTA… but at least not out of youthful ignorance, but simply stupidity.

[–] hoppolito@mander.xyz 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Huh, that’s a super interesting system. If you’re 18 can you also directly go to A2 or is it all gradual from one to the next?

[–] Natanox@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 1 week ago

Yeah, when you're 18 you can go directly to A2 and after 2 years do the unlimited A license. Or directly A1 when 16, only the unlimited A license got this 2 year time limit if you're too young so seasoned young drivers don't need to wait all the way until they're 24 if they already got experience with handling bikes and a feeling for the dangers of high speed (at least that's the hope).

AM, A1 and A2 also got a special paragraph for trikes since they're heavier, so it takes a tiny bit more engine power to achieve the same acceleration and max speed.

9-13 Yamaha FZ7. Seriously fun bikes.

It doesn't look like a bike to me, it looks like something underwater but also dry somehow.

Looks like the front of a bike to me, admittedly a weirdly shaped and pretty roughed up bike but still pretty definitively bike looking.

[–] fuckwit_mcbumcrumble@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I'm confused by what it's on.

Did they spray paint some SSes and just kept the newspaper they painted it on?

[–] burntbacon@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 1 week ago

It almost looks like some form of temporary registration, shoved up under the plastic. The one bit of semi-legible writing doesn't look like english though.

[–] R00bot@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 week ago

That's fair. I think it's the front of the bike.

Oh dang lol. I totally missed that last sentence

[–] axexrx@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

Headlight and bottom of the windshield

[–] PM_ME_VINTAGE_30S@lemmy.sdf.org 37 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Can you dox them or just otherwise fuck their shit up with this information? (Not here because I don't know how identifiable you are but just anywhere.) Sucks that you have to live next to these people 😣

[–] JoMiran@lemmy.ml 90 points 1 week ago (1 children)

This is 2025 America. The fact that they are comfortable enough to put it dead center on their bike speaks volumes about how little worry they have about being outed as a nazi.

[–] PM_ME_VINTAGE_30S@lemmy.sdf.org 35 points 1 week ago

Yeah you're right and that's fucking bleak. Still, I'm sure there are some people in your boat who aren't okay with having a Nazi living next door, working for them, etc.

[–] sharkfucker420@lemmy.ml 12 points 1 week ago (2 children)

They'd be doxxing themself as well if they did this

[–] PM_ME_VINTAGE_30S@lemmy.sdf.org 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Maybe? Maybe not? If this SS bolt is on the person's motorcycle, it could plausibly be seen by dozens of members of the public. In any case, I did mention not to do it with this account for this exact reason.

[–] celeste@feddit.org 25 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Put up some nice decorations in the area

[–] Taalnazi@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

Why not smear cow poop over it? (Use throwaway gloves while doing so, and burn them after).

[–] python@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago

Cow and horse poops aren't actually a good choice - sure, you can get them in a large quantity, but they're mostly fiber, so they dissolve in water very easily and are too easy to wash off.
You want poop with lots of fat in it, so something from an animal that eats meat. I'm biased, but in my opinion snake poop would be a superb choice, if you can get your hands on some. It's dense, hard to wash off and smells like actual death - so even a small, well placed piece would already be very effective.

[–] festnt@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 week ago

that's a good idea, but where do i get cow poop and not get filmed by any cameras

[–] pulsewidth@lemmy.world 23 points 1 week ago (3 children)

As an aside, how is it legal to install spiked bolt caps on the front of your motorbike fairing?

If they collide with anyone - even at low speed - a standard bolt cap compared with a spiked one could mean the difference between a minor injury and serious injury/death.

[–] burntbacon@discuss.tchncs.de 14 points 1 week ago

The reason it's legal? Because it's not illegal.

ha ha

But seriously, the chances are so low that it was likely never considered. Politicians have to pass a law to make something like that illegal, and what politician is even going to think about this, much less bring it up for a vote?

[–] Natanox@discuss.tchncs.de 11 points 1 week ago

Probably USA, so "freedom".

[–] King_Bob_IV@startrek.website 4 points 1 week ago

Most of the time they are lightweight plastic shells and will crumple before causing any extra damage.

[–] RubberElectrons@lemmy.world 21 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Mix some grease with small ball bearings rolled around in sulphuric acid, the acid should make the bearings dark enough to take them out if they ride at night.

[–] thespcicifcocean@lemmy.world 12 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Where do you put the ball bearings?

[–] iamdisappoint@reddthat.com 21 points 1 week ago

Nah, bro, it's a Super Sport! /s

[–] BreadOven@lemmy.world 14 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Hard to ride with slashed tires.

Don't slash. They can get you for destruction of property. Get a set of tire valve stem core remover tools and just unscrew the stem core without taking it out. Constant tire pressure loss. They'll likely replace the tires and you can do it again. So much more nazi time wasted than slashing the tires.

[–] ArchmageAzor@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago

You have a civic duty to get them out of there.

[–] SCmSTR@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 1 week ago

Light it on fire
