the american mind can't comprehend what it's like to have a president that knows how to read

[–] BeanisBrain@hexbear.net 20 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Reminder that George W. Bush started a policy of daily terror security briefings because he didn't want to read the reports

[–] tocopherol@hexbear.net 19 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

George W. Bush started a policy of daily terror

And that policy is still going strong

[–] CloutAtlas@hexbear.net 16 points 2 weeks ago

This is a reference to the fact that 20% of Americans are functionally illiterate and 54% of Americans read at or below a 6th grade level.

might be a bit autistic

Has presided over the construction of the largest high speed rail network in the world

Yea I can see it

[–] WeedReference420@hexbear.net 76 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Autism or not I imagine Trump is quite off putting to look at for long periods of time

[–] anotherspinelessdem@lemmy.ml 44 points 2 weeks ago

Or short periods of time

[–] yyprum@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 2 weeks ago

No joke, he is in half of the photos of posts in the fediverse and I just can't stand it, I have started to avoid news groups because I'm so tired of looking at his face. I still want to get up to speed on the news though. I wonder if they could just post photos of turds instead with the news, it would be more rewarding. Maybe some kind of filter on photos, when the Cheeto face appears it's substituted with a turd. Is there such a filter?

Kinda shit you do when you forget that cameras are physical objects situated in physical space, each photo a deliberate choice made by the person using it.

China has an autistic leader

Yet one more way they kick America's ass

[–] mrfugu@hexbear.net 29 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Trump is the physical embodiment of “have a firm handshake and print your resume on nice paper” experience, skill, and reputation do NOT matter

President Trump shows his penis to the world, President Xi shows his penis to nobody. This is because China is woke and won't buy soybeans. I am making fart noises with my mouth, thhhbbbbppppptttttt, and I am a very serious person and cultural commentator.

[–] CloutAtlas@hexbear.net 24 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

He's probably reading Hexbear while "The Leader of the Free World" is sitting just there.

He's just like me fr fr

[–] UmmmCheckPlease@hexbear.net 7 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah I heard Xi requests a roll-up of the posts of the day (and comments) by ‘new’ every morning. Such that he can review it when meetings get boring.

[–] BabyTurtles@hexbear.net 20 points 2 weeks ago

I know somebody in here needs to hear this: if they aren't yearning for you the way Trump yearns for Xi, I'm sorry they aren't the one.

[–] purpleworm@hexbear.net 18 points 2 weeks ago

It might be seen as a lowbrow insult, but this is just walking into the remark that Trump barely reads except for social media bullshit.

To be honest, I feel like you need crazy autism to get at the top of a communist party, just from my experience. Like, you just need some kind of crazy dog in you.

[–] CloutAtlas@hexbear.net 17 points 2 weeks ago

Also holding the record for the living in a cave > President of China any%. That's not a category neurotypical people speedrun.

[–] alexei_1917@hexbear.net 13 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

I mean, not a single one of the great revolutionary figureheads of history was entirely neurotypical. The way Mao writes, at least how it comes across in translation... that man had no interest in flowery prose, he just wanted to communicate important information as concisely as possible. That's Autistic Communication 101 right there. Stalin was similar in his writing, but also just... so many "eccentric" behaviours that scream autism. No neurotypical man with no sensory issues wears the same clothes that much, or pitches a fit over a pair of ratty but comfortable boots. But I would do both of those things in his position, so. He had a comfort movie he knew every line to. He had a special interest in Russian history and would personally yell at Soviet filmmakers who got real historical details wrong in historical fiction.

Look. All of these guys were probably very neurodivergent, with a special interest in Marxist-Leninist theory and the practice that goes with it. I would be utterly unsurprised to discover that the upper echelons of basically every serious ML vanguard party today are all some form of neurodivergent, and you pretty much have to be to pass the official or unofficial tests and examinations for party positions of power and importance. We make excellent revolutionaries and we are very good at the actual planning of running a centrally planned economy. Or at supervising the building of train infrastructure and other transportation and roadways. We have strong senses of justice and we like spreadsheets. You'd be surprised how much of communism in practice is a giant fucking spreadsheet.

My life might be a lie if Marx didn’t have a special interest in capital

[–] alexei_1917@hexbear.net 4 points 2 weeks ago

Oh, he absolutely did. No neurotypical person could have written that much on one topic. And his general behaviour, even once he was no longer a student, keeping odd hours, drinking to excess, infrequently washing or changing his linens, ignoring all else in favour of his present hyperfixation, needing monetary support from a comrade because he struggled to hold down a job or even do temporary paid work... I know at least one autistic person who's exactly like that today, minus the drinking to excess because she doesn't drink at all - family history of alcohol issues, past addictive personality shown with less dangerous but similar substances, she's just not going to risk it.

We came to the same conclusion by different means, lol

"This time we will make something that is both beautiful and delicious."

Because trump has nothing to say.

GOTTTEM

[–] Runcible@hexbear.net 13 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Probably exhausted from all the people trying to meaningfully stare into his eyes

[–] HorikBrun@kbin.earth 12 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Xi, showing off his superior reading ability. Dumpster waiting impatiently for Xi to tell him what the scary paper says.

[–] CloutAtlas@hexbear.net 7 points 2 weeks ago

Xi reading both Hanzi and English better than Trump

[–] into_highest_invite@lemmygrad.ml 11 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (2 children)

ok unironically do translators type their translations now cause why is he just staring at some sort of ipad with that pen they have on the credit card readers

[–] XiaCobolt@hexbear.net 24 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (6 children)

Xi speaks English fluently privately. He just doesn't speak it publicly to avoid making mockable mistakes/being seen as weak by hardliners/giving him time to pretend to hear a translation.

I don't know how long it was or what he's staring at but it won't be that.

[–] ClathrateG@hexbear.net 8 points 2 weeks ago (4 children)

does he speak it with an Idaho accent?

[–] CloutAtlas@hexbear.net 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Irish accent, riddled with Gaeilge

[–] spudnik@hexbear.net 2 points 2 weeks ago

Just like Lenin!

I understand why he does it but I really think Xi would be more popular in the west if he gave us some Jiang-style banter.

It looks to me like they all have something equivalent they're looking at, he's just the only one using a tablet and looking at it at this exact frame. I'd bet you could probably capture a frame of him looking up and the person he's looking at looking down at their own notes.

Also I thought he speaks English, is that wrong?

i figure most world leaders probably speak english, but they still use translators because they have a delicate job

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 11 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

We need to shut down sport's commentator cartoons depicting football plays until we figure out why it became whatever the fuck this is.
