Fantastic journalism to not include the image of the "optical illusion" anywhere in the article, or the other linked articles.

Welcome to c/news! We aim to foster a book-club type environment for discussion and critical analysis of the news. Our policy objectives are:
-
To learn about and discuss meaningful news, analysis and perspectives from around the world, with a focus on news outside the Anglosphere and beyond what is normally seen in corporate media (e.g. anti-imperialist, anti-Zionist, Marxist, Indigenous, LGBTQ, people of colour).
-
To encourage community members to contribute commentary and for others to thoughtfully engage with this material.
-
To support healthy and good faith discussion as comrades, sharpening our analytical skills and helping one another better understand geopolitics.
We ask community members to appreciate the uncertainty inherent in critical analysis of current events, the need to constantly learn, and take part in the community with humility. None of us are the One True Leftist, not even you, the reader.
Newcomm and Newsmega Rules:
The Hexbear Code of Conduct and Terms of Service apply here.
-
Link titles: Please use informative link titles. Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.
-
Content warnings: Posts on the newscomm and top-level replies on the newsmega should use content warnings appropriately. Please be thoughtful about wording and triggers when describing awful things in post titles.
-
Fake news: No fake news posts ever, including April 1st. Deliberate fake news posting is a bannable offense. If you mistakenly post fake news the mod team may ask you to delete/modify the post or we may delete it ourselves.
-
Link sources: All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include the Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance) or at least strip out identifier information from the twitter link. There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source.
-
Archive sites: We highly encourage use of non-paywalled archive sites (i.e. archive.is, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org) so that links are widely accessible to the community and so that reactionary sources don’t derive data/ad revenue from Hexbear users. If you see a link without an archive link, please archive it yourself and add it to the thread, ask the OP to fix it, or report to mods. Including text of articles in threads is welcome.
-
Low effort material: Avoid memes/jokes/shitposts in newscomm posts and top-level replies to the newsmega. This kind of content is OK in post replies and in newsmega sub-threads. We encourage the community to balance their contribution of low effort material with effort posts, links to real news/analysis, and meaningful engagement with material posted in the community.
-
American politics: Discussion and effort posts on the (potential) material impacts of American electoral politics is welcome, but the never-ending circus of American Politics© Brought to You by Mountain Dew™ is not welcome. This refers to polling, pundit reactions, electoral horse races, rumors of who might run, etc.
-
Electoralism: Please try to avoid struggle sessions about the value of voting/taking part in the electoral system in the West. c/electoralism is right over there.
-
AI Slop: Don't post AI generated content. Posts about AI race/chip wars/data centers are fine.
the linked article linked to another article, which FINALLY linked to the original reporting of it which has the image
10/10 journalistic quality, folks
Oh wow invisible to the naked eye indeed
I'm surprised someone didn't just direct an AI to generate one. The bar is low enough these days that maybe they deserve points for that.
This is actually laughable lol. Why even lie this badly
it might LOOK like a swastika but it's actually an amerikkka
Okay, when you put it that way, it's actually quite understandable

you're all getting it confused. of course it's a swastika - it's the american flag that's an illusion!

Absolutely shameful of nbc to not publish the picture of the flag but to run this cover for it
One of the sources, whose office received a flag back in January, said it was initially difficult to see the flag's swastika with the naked eye, calling it an “optical illusion.” But once the swastika in the center of the flag was discovered, the flag was thrown out, the source said.
Lmao bullshit it's not an optical illusion it's just a fuckin swastika
The U.S does not have a Fascism problem. It is a mirage. The U.S has a problem of mysterious mirages popping up warping reality as we know it
Someone get the capitol police on this immediately

extra fun gif cuz the fella in the middle plays a neonazi in american history x
The gif is from Kevin Smith's Mallrats (1995) of the Jay and Silent Bob series. Throughout the whole movie, the character in the middle stands at a kitsch art kiosk and stares at a printing of what looks like TV static. Every other character in the movie claims that they can see a sailboat. The character in the middle grows increasingly frustrated that he's the only one who can't see it.
The audience never sees the sailboat either. The optical illusion is fake. The printing is only static.
There are two types of Amerikkkan “journalists”: those that are fascists, and those that run interference for fascists
The news comes one day after Rep. Dave Taylor, R-Ohio, called the flag with the swastika “vile” and “deeply inappropriate” after the symbol was seen in one of his staffers’ offices in the background of a meeting. [...] Taylor denounced the symbol Wednesday, saying in a statement, "I condemn it in the strongest terms."
I hate the media.
---
I keep tellin' the youngsters too soon is too soon! Do they listen? No! Wait a minute... Is that camera on over there? Can people see and hear— [Adjusts tie and takes a deep breath] I want all Americans to know that the swastika is vile and deeply inappropriate. I condemn it in the strongest terms...
I really want someone prominent to start saying “bullshit” whenever one of these ghouls cries “I condemn!” It’s so fucking obvious they don’t mean it and are just doing it reflexively.
It seems that every MSM reporter in DC is a doofus or pretends to be. And the media gets so huffy and annoyed when the public starts yelling - "Stop taking diction! The GOP is lying - you dipshits!" It's a ridiculous and insane situation.
A few years from now people like Taylor will be openly proclaiming stuff like their belief in the national supremacy and dominance of the White Race. And the media's response will be - "How did we get here?" And when they answer their own question - they'll surely mention the damaging and toxic online atmosphere that stifles the discourse.
Maybe they're dumb enough to believe that, but i'm not.

>Multiple GOP offices received flags with 'optical illusion' swastikas...
So... you're gonna remove them right?

It’s insulting how stupid they think we are…and journalists STILL twist themselves in a pretzel to just believe anything republicans say…but somehow the “mainstream media^TM^” isn’t biased in their favor.
it's actually legal to walk up to a journalist and shoot them in the face just for being a journalist
>Multiple GOP offices received flags with 'optical illusion' swastikas...

But once the swastika in the center of the flag was discovered, the flag was thrown out, the source said.
prove it, show me the video of them burning
