unlikely to be illegal, the razor blades thing is an old fash trick but I haven't heard any cases of it happening with these yet? Better yet make a "murdered palestinian children poster" and slap it up over these, much less likely to become someones stupid photo op

[-] iridaniotter@hexbear.net 10 points 1 year ago

There's been one single case of razors supposedly

[-] SchillMenaker@hexbear.net 8 points 1 year ago

"We must kill them with air strikes!"

Signed - Israel

[-] thirtymilliondeadfish@hexbear.net 34 points 1 year ago

these are just bait tbh, don't be a photo op

What do you mean by being a photo?

[-] MeowZedong@lemmygrad.ml 19 points 1 year ago

Yes, when you take these down, they will use this as ammunition to legitimize their deranged claims of antisemitism, etc about people who are opposed to genocide.

Even if they don't see you doing it, they will make videos about how they posted a sign and then it was removed. They don't need to catch you to pretend that they are martyrs.

[-] TheUltimateCommunist@lemmygrad.ml 11 points 1 year ago

Is it more harmful to leave propaganda around though?

[-] FunkyStuff@hexbear.net 8 points 1 year ago

I'd rather not take the risk of giving them a viral photo op, not a lot of people are gonna read that paper anyway.

it's not like there's any constructive use for them anyway. HAVE YOU SEEN THIS PERSON? CALL 1800-TIPLINE NOW

[-] MeowZedong@lemmygrad.ml 7 points 1 year ago

Not sure. My first instinct is also to take them down, but I figure videos and pictures that can be used as much more damaging and lasting forms of propaganda are something I shouldn't give them the opportunity to gather from me.

It's fucking dumb, but it's the game that's played and its successfully used to demonize leftists.

is the propaganda a swastika or a child. One of these is socially appropriate to remove

i don't think it's that big a deal. let them work themselves up into a lather.

[-] Deadend@hexbear.net 12 points 1 year ago

Someone likely has a camera pointed at the poster.

It's the image of it, the optics let's say shapiro-poplar

[-] RyanGosling@hexbear.net 7 points 1 year ago

Yes. Think about it. If you’re willing to put razor blades in it, taking a person’s photo in public is not exactly beyond them.

But are they going to be vigilating them 24/7?

[-] RyanGosling@hexbear.net 2 points 1 year ago

Definitely not 24/7. But it’s gonna be hard to spot them unless they’re trying to provoke you

a photo op/opportunity

That opposition to the zionist entity is being misdirected toward ostensibly 'peaceful' claims of releasing prisoners should be noted. Shout and tear down islamophobic propaganda yes, but all you're doing here is pulling down posters of kidnapped kids, which is exactly what the posters are designed to do.

[-] Maoo@hexbear.net 29 points 1 year ago

Remove them after dark and using a tool like a knife to do the first few steps.

It's generally legal so long as it isn't private property.

PS legality is for dweebs so if someone you know is thinking of removing signs from private property, tell them that cool kids wear black bloc-ish clothes when doing so and do it after dark and when people aren't around.

[-] MattsAlt@hexbear.net 24 points 1 year ago

A school by me put up a ton of chairs, I guess however many captives, with signs to "Bring them back!" in the big shared green space

But yeah, pro Palestine protests are effectively banned. Freeze peach and all that

Bourgeoisie free speech

[-] Nationalgoatism@hexbear.net 23 points 1 year ago

Whether or not it's legal, just don't get caught lol

[-] JuryNullification@hexbear.net 20 points 1 year ago

In my locality, those would be illegally posted signs so I would just take them down. Check your local laws ig

[-] Egon@hexbear.net 15 points 1 year ago

It's legal, but you'll still be arrested for it

[-] Egon@hexbear.net 31 points 1 year ago

Cops don't have to know the law, they'll arrest you if you do something they dont like

[-] Adkml@hexbear.net 10 points 1 year ago

Because cops in this country can murder you in your own home and get away with it, arresting you for no reaspn is literally trivial to them.

doesn't matter, they're duct taped to a tree they're gonna fall off 2 seconds into the next rainstorm.

It is most likely legal to remove since they are attached to trees in the strip of land (apparently called a "road verge"?) that is public property. Where I live, the property line extends to the sidewalk and everything beyond that belongs to the city and the homeowner gets an easement in exchange for maintaining it. So campaign signs can legally be removed from medians and road verges, but not off private property.

[-] RyanGosling@hexbear.net 10 points 1 year ago

It’s not illegal. It’s like putting up missing posters for Kony2012

[-] VILenin@hexbear.net 6 points 1 year ago

They could have stayed home instead of moving to a genocidal fascist state. No sympathy :)

[-] Gorillatactics@hexbear.net 5 points 1 year ago

Try a centrist both-sides bit and hang up a poster of killed Palestinians next to them.

[-] Adkml@hexbear.net 4 points 1 year ago

I was wondering why there was a spike in "piece of shit tries to rip down missing person poster" in all the right wing shithole subreddits.

The fact that it was just propoganda to stir up sympathy for a genocide instead of actual missing person poster makes entirely too much sense.

Also if you're worried about razor blades just set it on fire

[-] newmou@hexbear.net 3 points 1 year ago

Just keep duct tape with you and tape over the right side and bottom with two strips, easy

[-] Zodiark@hexbear.net 3 points 1 year ago

It's becoming gauche to see these as news comes out in the past month of the mounting civilian casualties of the war is now in 10,000+; it's clear that Israel used Oct 7th as an excuse to level Gaza and if you're not already on board with anti-Muslim and Arab hate, what goodwill towards the hostages then fizzles into tragic indifference.

[-] dragongloss@hexbear.net 3 points 1 year ago

Booby traps are illegal, so removing it definitely isn't. You're not even allowed to booby trap your own private property. If someone gets hurt from a booby trap the victim hold the responsibly party liable for their damages and injuries. Not to mention the environmental hazard, razor blades to hurt people, pets, and animals. Special kind of scum to force people and animals to have to deal with razorblades in their local parks when inevitably weather disintegrates them and the posters are never retrieved.

[-] Guillotine_Erotica@hexbear.net 3 points 1 year ago

Just make 12.000 posters of innocent dead Palestinians to add some context

[-] infuziSporg@hexbear.net 3 points 1 year ago
  1. This looks like a really shoddy posting job. Duct tape on a sheet protector, and attaching it to tree bark? They even obstructed the headline "kidnapped". That could be taken down in 5 seconds.

  2. I'd be really surprised if there are any cameras trained on it.

  3. The razor blade trick works with wheatpasting on solid flat-ish surfaces. It doesn't work so well on rounded wood or tree bark.

  4. In a public place like this there's nothing favoring the person who posted it. It's not on their property; there is no legal consequence to taking it down.

it's literally just a piece of paper. you can wipe your ass with it as long as you do it in the bathroom.

also i say this every time this subject comes up but 99% of flyers aren't bladed. it's possible in the abstract, but unless you've seen a report about it happening in your city, just grab that shit and rip. especially if it's just held there with 4 pieces of tape on a tree trunk.
