‘It Is No Measure of Health To Be Well-Adjusted to a Profoundly Sick Society’

[–] MelodiousFunk@slrpnk.net 17 points 3 weeks ago

Because I looked it up once and feel the need to share:

As the religious people say: Amen. Let us amend it into Mend.

To remain sane in an insane world is merely the sign of a sick mind.

  • someone I already forgot the name of (also it's a paraphrase)

"I feel like I'm going crazy!"

"You're not going crazy Aurther! You're going sane in a crazy world!"

I've heard it as (and occasionally use myself),

Insanity is a sane response to an insane world.

[–] MotoAsh@piefed.social 1 points 3 weeks ago

Yeah I think that's the phrasing I've heard most, too.

[Man in suit adjusts tie]

I am insane because I am sane.

You are insane because you are insane.

We are not the same.

Every time I have to tell my psychiatrist that my meds "stopped working", I ask myself if they really stopped working or if they're just not doing enough because shit keeps getting worse and worse.

Most mental illnesses and almost all untreated illnesses are a result of wealth inequality.

Vilazodone isn't gonna fix the fascism problem :(

I think the most suicidal I've ever been was when I was on sertraline. It dulls EVERYTHING. Orgasms was close to impossible, and if you got them: *ZAP* "icepick to the brain" kind of headache.
I get why a capitalistic society prescribes medicine like that willy-nilly, it's easier to have zombies just doing their tasks than actually looking at the problems causing depression in the first place as OP's meme hints at.

The only medicine that has actually helped get out of a depression spiral is an ego death dose of psilocybin. Ego death does something to you, like it's a full brain reboot. You forget what trivial problems you have doing death circles in your mind, and you remember you're part of nature.

Mind you, I'm not recommending shrooms, in fact I'm pretty scared of them even to this day. I've only taken bigger doses less than 10 times in my life as it's definitely not a party drug.

That sucks.

For me, sertraline helped me finally wake up and feel like myself again. (Plus buspirone for the sexual side effects and jaw clenching... which I guess could also be a sexual side effect if it happens at the wrong time.)

To be fair, since that time, which was probably close to 10 years ago, I've since found out that I have autism and ADD (diagnosed last year), and I've found that I'm quite sensitive to a lot of medicine, meaning it's possible I was overmedicated on sertraline. Or maybe it's the opposite, that because of my alexithymia, meaning the few feelings I had was dulled incredibly, and the other feeling I wasn't feeling was turned to practically 0.

I'm very happy to hear that it helped you though. Where I live I doubt I'd had access to buspirone anyway.

[–] ViatorOmnium@piefed.social 4 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Well that didn't help my depression at all!
