In a resurfaced clip from 2022, House Speaker Mike Johnson admitted to monitoring his 17-year-old son's internet activity for pornography. Johnson made this revelation during a speech at Cypress Baptist Church in Benton, Louisiana, where he discussed the "War on Technology."

During his talk, Johnson disclosed that he and his son had installed "accountability software" known as Covenant Eyes on their electronic devices to discourage visits to explicit websites.

The disclosure of Johnson's utilization of this software holds particular importance, considering his extensively documented fixation on matters related to the sexual lives of LGBTQ+ individuals. He has consistently championed the idea of criminalizing homosexual acts, voiced his opposition to same-sex marriage, and lent his support to discredited attempts aimed at altering the sexual orientation of LGBTQ+ individuals.

This title sounds like his son holds him accountable for his rampant porn addiction

That's kind of the case. The software in question apparently has "accountability partner", meant to keep each other honest.

What do you expect from the regal journalistic integrity of the Pulitzer Prize-winning site Comics Sands?

Why are americans so much fixated with sex life of people?

[-] Trex202@lemmy.one 11 points 6 months ago

It's a tool of oppression.

There is nothing more interesting than a "forbidden fruit". Funny how a religion that bases on a human eating from the forbidden fruit is all about creating another forbidden fruit. And if you can't have your own sex life then the next best thing is to think about the one others have or might have or even obsess about that. One could learn from the bible, but they chose to not do that. Sometimes I wonder if they have even read it.

Not a drag queen.

Now, it’s a security concern as these apps can screenshot your device activity. Every classified document opened on his phone might be visible to a third party, possibly even a foreign spy agency. Thanks to Republicans, Russia and China find it easier than ever.

Not that I don't agree, but there is 100% a sticker access to documents on gov phones than you imagine.

His weird-ass religious zealotry doesn't really make him THAT much more likely to be hacked. No more than any of the 80+ yr/old dirt bags imo.

Hmm.

proud to say my son has a clean slate

During Duggar's trial, prosecution lawyers revealed that he had found a technical workaround to download child pornography without alerting his wife, who was originally set to receive notifications.

Bro, your kid just figured out how to workaround your nanny filter. Just like that Duggar pedo did.

The same way I learned how to get around my parents weird porn blocker when I was a kid. Now I have a successful career in software development/IT.

Or he watches porn with a friend on their phone and they jerk off together. Not that there is anything wrong with that.

Repeatedly. In his god-hole from behind. With prayers.

I feel sorry for his son. That poor 17-year old kid is struggling with puberty and being flooded with hormones and his fucked up dad is making him feel guilty for having completely natural feelings and urges. I hope he is able to get out from under his dad's thumb sooner rather than later so he has the chance to discover himself.

Also, fuck you Mike Johnson for using your son as your "accountability partner." If you want repress your sexuality then fine, but you should be using a fucking peer for that shit. Your kid shouldn't be responsible for making sure you are being a good person (ignoring that watching porn or masturbating does not make you a bad person in the first place).

Parentification is a form of emotional abuse. This is dangerously close to that line.

I really feel like the Democrats unleashed a monkey's paw by helping to remove McCarthy.

Johnson is so much worse.

[-] mrcleanup@lemmy.world 6 points 6 months ago

They didn't need fancy software, all they had to do was decide that if they were going to masturbate, they needed to do it together, as a family.
