Defend the homeland? That's some Nazi shit.

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 69 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

I called this shit after 9/11 but everyone said I was being paranoid.

[–] SoleInvictus@lemmy.blahaj.zone 64 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

Same. The Patriot Act was a huge step in this direction.

[–] CompactFlax@discuss.tchncs.de 22 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Obama had opportunities to push things in the right direction but instead enabled (by not abolishing or by actively renewing legislation) a lot of what we’re seeing.

This is fine, the government wouldn’t ever use this in a bad way

What if the government is no longer benevolent? What if a cabal of activists takes over the executive branch?

That’ll never happen

It’s actually an acronym: The USA PATRIOT Act which stands for “Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism”

But I like to call it The U SAP AT RIOT Act

[–] aesthelete@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

We "sap at riot" indeed...

[–] glimse@lemmy.world 9 points 3 weeks ago

I was a rightwing edge lord kid at the time, the names for things under GWB (specifically The Patriot Act and Homeland Security) made me pause for the first time. It was a real "are we the baddies?" moment for me as I drew all the lines to dictatorships in history

You weren't wrong. You just were early.

IMO, people are a lot stupider and act with a lot less knowledge of the obvious outcomes of their actions than we give them credit for, and the possibility of non-obvious outcomes is often completely missing from their worldview.

There are legitimate uses of the words used in the sentence, but when used in this exact format it's indeed very clearly intentionally evocative of ww2 era propaganda.

Honestly, it's pretty sad how creatively bankrupt they are that they're reusing these slogans and imagery.

Come be a nazi if you're a big enough bitch!

“Become a class traitor so you can get fucked up by the public!”

Looks like something from a dystopic video game. We really have gone deep down the dark, sinister path in America.

[–] PodPerson@lemmy.zip 16 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Neat - a banner ad. Haven't seen one of those in ages.

Ad blockers will change your whole experience of the web. Kinda like it was “back in the day.”

[–] WhyIHateTheInternet@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

Oh yeah I use them. What's funny is how much empty space they can create on a page lol like it's a lot

[–] Fiivemacs@lemmy.ca 12 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

why no ad blocker.. I haven't seen these banner ads in over 10 years, or if I'm on someone else's computer. and then I install the blocker and let them enjoy freedom

I dont have admin perms to do that. Also it wipes everything each time you log on

[–] Psythik@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

You don't need admin access to install browser extensions. Every PC I touch at work has Ublock Origin or Ublock Lite (if it has Chrome) installed by me.

Your school PCs being wiped every reboot is a blessing. You can install whatever the hell you want and never get in trouble for it. If I were you, I'd toss Firefox Portable on a flash drive with Ublock Origin already installed and ready to go. Or just install Firefox directly on the PC every time you use it if flash drives are blocked (just click "no" at the admin prompt and it will still install anyway).

Our tax dollars hard at work buying google ad space. FREEDUMB!

[–] JackbyDev@programming.dev 9 points 3 weeks ago

At a restaurant this weekend I saw an absolutely disgusting commercial. It was targeting cops who want to do more but are "held back" because this is a "sanctuary city."

[–] resipsaloquitur@lemmy.world 9 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

What if we all joined and were bad at it?

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

What if we all joined and "accidentally" detained all the fascist ICE chuds?

[–] WhyIHateTheInternet@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Whoa whoa whoa who are you to try to enforce the actual law?

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 8 points 3 weeks ago

Fake news. You can see their traitorous, evil face.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago

You too can go to prison and have your descendants discuss how disgusted they are to be related to you! Act now and you can even spend your later years haunted by the faces of the children you hurt

[–] LodeMike@lemmy.today 4 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)
[–] QuinnyCoded@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (1 children)

[–] LodeMike@lemmy.today 4 points 3 weeks ago

You should click on it, click click click click, get your friends to click. Click on every device with a unique IP. We should all seek out these ads and click click click

Ads are usually paid for on a per click basis btw, the more unique clicks the bigger the bill

[–] skeptomatic@lemmy.ca 1 points 3 weeks ago

Suck dick TODAY!
Right wing racist pussies - yes please!

If peeps thought cops had a chip on their shoulder for being bullied in high school for being pillow-biters, ICE is a step below them, in the worse way.

[–] ech@lemmy.ca 1 points 3 weeks ago

Is this a university website?
