I've had an awful few days and am feeling very unwell. Please distract me. I love creepy true stories, especially glitch-in-the-matrix type stuff.

EDIT: Thanks for all the stories, I'm enjoying them!

wasn't anything paranormal/supernatural, but I think the creepiest surreal experience I've had that wasn't "supernatural" was when I was 15 and going to see my partner at the time. There was a wooded hide-out that was close to a place I used to live, mostly just a shitty "natural park" that was a thinly-disguised dumping ground with a river through it in urbia.

anyways, I was meeting up with her there and while walking through I see two girls around the same age (looked like at least) that were IDENTICAL in appearance along the little wooded pathway heading to where we usually hang out. Like, only difference being is the shoes and some minor make-up but the same hair, facial features, height, etc; guessing they were twins. They both had straight up red eyes (they were high) and were breaking into fits of nervous laughter upon seeing me and walking in pace. I literally just don't say anything until I get to her where she was sitting by a collapse concrete sewer main that was ripped out years ago and she just starts laughing after I ask her "What the actual fuck was that?"

Apparently it was some twins that were hanging out in the same area, they tried some weed she was smoking and they both lost their shit. I just happened to be walking in when they were both collectively losing their shit and leaving. What's crazy is that they were laughing and walking in unison at the same time.

I was also mildly stoned at the time and was just pretty much paralyzed in fear and keeping my distance while I walked by them. I literally thought I was entering a horror flick a la some "Shining" shit or something.

Let me start off by saying that I am, by no strech of the imagination, a superstitious person. Neither is my partner. We are usually very quick with explanations of why some weird shit might have happened. A small analysis of the conditions around an event always allows us to arrive to conclusions. Now, with that out of the way, let me tell you something the I swear is 100% real.

Some years ago, my partner and I went to a small appartment in a coastal town. It was nice but supper small. Like, "single space, bed had to be pulled down from the wall"-small. So we spent the time we were at the house in the same space. It was really great, though. We have two dogs and there was a small patio with wild grass that they could hang out at. We are also pretty fond of going out and taking hikes, so a small appartment only meant less space to clean at the end of the week. It was also furnished with some taste. Decorations like vases and paintings of the area, a small but practicall kitchen and some closets to prevent everything from ending up in some chair.

Some nights in, we arrived after a long hike. It had been very nice and we were extra cheerful. We had sex, and after a shower, we prepared some dinner and went to bed. Not too late, to be able to go out again in the morning. We were both pretty tired so we turned off the lights and fell asleep pretty quickly.

But shortly after, like ten minutes in, two things happened. Both could be easily explained by chance, random things happen all the time. The problem was the fact that they both happened virtually at the same time.

We were woked up by the light being turned on all of the sudden. Keep in mind this was your typical super small loft, so it basically had one set of lights that illuminates everything. It was not a nightstand light being turned on. We had like half a second to be all like "what the hell just happened". Because, basically at the same time the lights went on, a vase started falling the ground from a bookshelf on the other side of the room. This meant that, after that half second, the vase crashed loudly into the ground.

Suffice it to say, we were scared shitless and barely slept that night. Thankfully nothing else happened during the rest of our stance. Otherwise we would not have finished the week there.

To this day we've thought of multiple possible reasonings: the lightswitch might have been only half pushed; the vase might have been already close to falling; maybe what woke us was actually a loud thump on the wall from the neighbors and we just saw the aftermath... This last one being extremely unlikely since the switch was next to the bed and the vase on the opposite side of the room. In any case, we still remember it laughing (now), and we still have not the slightless clue of why the fucking ghost of the former owner wanted to mess with us that night.

One time I was driving home from the airport with my wife, it was late, maybe 1am.

We are in the middle of nowhere, turning right at a junction. There were no houses, we were surrounded by fields. It was super quiet. Off in the distance, sort of behind us and to the right (so drivers side window) I could hear ... Bells. Distant ringing bells, not big booming ones like a church bell but like small hand bells or a wind chime. Didn't think much of it and kept driving.

Several miles later, about fifteen minutes of driving I'd say, we were coming up to another junction also in the middle of fields. I stopped to look both ways, and to my surprise I heard bells again. This time I switched off the engine so my wife could hear them too, which she did. Nobody else was around and we were far away from where I first heard them. Were we being followed by bells?

My wife was a bit freaked out, so she made me drive off instead of investigating. To this day I have no idea what it was. If the car was making the noise, well it had never made them before or since. We've also driven that road a few times again and never heard them.

My mostly-joking theory is fairies were trying to lure us into a trap. I don't know what else it could've been!

My dad was riding bikes with friends as a kid and as they were coming up to a really curved and wooded stretch of road with low visibility, my dad heard a voice loud in his ear saying "get off the road, pull over! Quick!"

So he stopped and got all his friends to stop and go over to the side of the road he was on. Pretty soon after a car came zooming around the corner way too fast and would have plowed into them all.

His brother woke up in the middle of the night with weird pressure on his legs, and it looked like someone invisible was sitting on his legs.

We both used to feel some kind of presence in the house growing up. Like I knew I was the only one home, but had to physically check every room was empty on multiple occasions because it didnt feel like I was alone. That lead to one time I was younger and had snuck out of my room to watch TV at like 3am. I heard something STOMPING hard and fast up the stairs from the basement and then go completely silent once it hit the top of the stairs and didnt hear anything after that.

Classic of sleep paralysis.

If it was in Brazil I would say that's totally on Pisadeira's ("stomping woman") account. It's one of those old rag types, kinda of Baba Yaga but brazilian folklore has a lot of Baba Yaga alikes not only one.

Hell yeah I love local/regional things like these

[–] hedd616@hexbear.net 6 points 2 days ago

Yep, it's cool!

Jesus christ that second one would actually fuck me up so bad. I would sometimes have auditory hallucinations as a kid and one time had a visual hallucination I remember very vividly. Some of them were unsettling but never anything like that goddamn.

Definitely creepy. this is what my childhood nightmares were made of.

I was pulled out of my bed three times in the same night. At least felt like been pulled by the leg.

It's was back in college days, I was alone in the house (I lived with other 4 guys). First two times I was pissed, third I got me the chills.

Walked pass a Jaguar while it's eating.

We were at this National Park deep into the Atlantic Forest taking soil samples and suddenly something screamed life a mf. And it ended just like it started. We thought it was a monkey or something, couple of those just passed above us but it sounded more ground level. Moving back, in the same trail we were hours early, some big cat trails. The guide went to a silent "WELL, SHIT" stance while giving us the proper warnings and such. As professionals we kinda knew how to deal and behave in the jungle but most of us were botanists, soil experts, ecologists and entomologists. Big cat behaviour wasn't our thing.

Ten minutes walking the guide said to us to "just keep walking". He started to stop while making moves to keep us moving. Suddenly something really heavy moved really fast around 10m far, moving alway from us. "Congratulations, you guys just met Dudu". Dudu was a 80kg male dragging some sort or peccary around.

Fun.

Edit: the real fun was to walk the trail back to our hut and avoid the peccary group that was somewhere. People who knows hogs and such knows what I'm talking about.

After my second degree I started to teach History at Middle and High School levels. During COVID there's this kid who always showed a Machete during my live stream classes, but just for a frame or two. Apparently he did it just for fun. School staff wasn't amused.

[–] 666@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Do jaguars get a little feisty while they're eating? I'm reminded how cats can get angry when you mess with their food-bowl.

[–] hedd616@hexbear.net 2 points 1 day ago

Predators tend to be protective, but all depends on the context. Dudu avoided us, perhaps he understood that we weren't aware of his presence. The jungle makes the whole "camouflage" absurdly effective. The difficult part is that we were at least 100m away from the nearest river and Jaguars tend to flee towards those so the cat took a time until it could calm down I guess.

Pumas, in other hand, will at least try to fuck you up.

I was driving out in the woods on a dirt road, heading home after a high school reunion. They wanted to do it deep in the woods at someone's cabin. It involved a 2 or 3 mile slow drive through unpaved roads. It wasn't so bad during the day, but at night driving back it was pitch blackness along bumpy dirt roads that didn't make sense. It was already creepy enough coming in with signs nailed to trees proclaiming love for Trump or private property or whatever. But at night it was awful.

So I turn down a road, completely lost, and end up at what I think might be a dead end. I roll a little closer to confirm and my headlights end up illuminating a shape in front of me in the darkness. It's a man, quite large (in both height and width) wearing a robe or something. Just standing motionless on a dark forest road at 11pm. Wearing what might be a grey or white robe. So I stare at this guy, he stares back at me. He's a bald white guy giving me a death glare. Motion out of the corner of my eye has me look around through my side windows. There are more people, at least a dozen, all milling about in the trees in pitch darkness. All of them in the same robes.

I sit there idling for a moment since I'm not even sure if this is really happening, then they all walk out into the woods, without torches or flashlights or anything. I reverse my car, then speed away. Most likely explanation is I happened upon a Klan meeting, or a Klan offshoot, or who knows. My hometown is full of racist morons. I can't explain how it seemed like they knew I'd be there. I've guessed for a long time that they expected someone else, then left when they realized I wasn't whoever they were waiting for.

Other creepy story of mine:

This one is more mundane but I used to work at a grocery store. One of the temp managers was a little weird to me, but never had much trouble. But he had a weird aura and I couldn't look him in the eyes without flinching. His eyes were just wrong. Everyone else at the store seemed to like him, but me even going within a few feet made my mental alarms go off.

cw: graphic, death, murderYears later I learn that temp manager was in jail for killing and sexually assaulting his sister and brother in law over some kind of drug dispute. This was after I had left the job though, but I had always felt extremely uncomfortable around him.

Sorry if my stories are more disturbing than the fun kind of creepy but they're the scariest things I've ever experienced

accidentally interrupting the hillbilly midnight LARP session. /s

Yeah, that's actually fucking terrifying.

Roll up on a klan meeting in the middle of the woods by accident peppino-shotgun

[–] axont@hexbear.net 7 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

I mean it felt more like a Klan ambush or rendezvous or something rather than a meeting and I wasn't the person they wanted. They were hiding behind trees and stuff in complete darkness, 3 miles into the woods. I didn't own a gun back then but the experience was a big reason for why I eventually got one

[–] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 7 points 2 days ago

Yeah if I wasn't armed I'd be super scared.

My mom saw two ufos as a kid. One was a silver plate like thing lift up out of someone's backyard and fly off. The second was a thing that looked like a mini tower on legs, when she ran off to get her mom and come back like 10 min later it was gone.

This was in the late 60's so way before commercial drone tech.

She also saw the hat man too as a kid once. Which is weird because lots of people have reported seeing this ghost.

[–] uSSRI@hexbear.net 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Oh shit that reminds me of the time I saw something weird in the sky.

I was with a friend at his grandparents house out in the country, and we were having a bonfire at night in the backyard just hanging out being 10 years old.

We both saw 3 lights in a triangle shape move slowly and quietly across the sky. The lights were enough that we figured we would hear it because it seemed so close, but they still looked like aircraft lights, so weird plane no big deal.

Then without even rotating or turning it shifted direction it was moving in and then reversed direction. Shit planes just dont do.

Now I think we saw a very very early drone? It was around 1998 and there was a national guard/military base nearby.

Might have been, hard to say.

When I was about 17 we lived in this old farmhouse that my great-aunt and great-uncle lived their whole lives in. Another great-uncle who had been a nasty dude had already died and the place all and all had a terrible vibe to it due to this history. The old people there were both old as dirt and demented at the time. My family moved there due to falling on hard times financially. Several weird things happened to me there, here's the ones I still remember vividly:

The house was a big farmhouse that had a large attic. It had been filled with old magazines and stuff that I found interesting so one day I went up there with my lil sis to see what we could find. After a while my sister got bored and left. When I got tired of browsing the old papers and decided to leave too, the latches on the door were closed both from the inside and out. I freaked the fuck out. Had to spend time screaming for help, because the door to the attic was pretty far from the areas where people spent time. Everyone claimed to not having been anywhere near the door while I was there, and who closed it from the inside?

The second thing happened in one of the adjacent buildings. There were many adjacent buildings that were all in a bad shape. The sauna was in an old barn building that had an attic that had no walkable floor on it anymore that you could safely walk on.

The lore of the barn was that the now dead uncle used to sit in the barn and get drunk and I hated going in there at all. However the sauna was there and I tried to be a reasonable adult with my superstition and decided to go bathe in there. It was dark and the vibes were bad, but I got on with my bathing.

As I sat on the sauna steps I started to hear heavy footsteps, clear as day, from the attic above me. Someone was clearly pacing from one end of the attic to the other, sounded like heavy boots or something. First I thought nothing of it and figured that my dad or my uncle has gone up there to find something. It took me a moment to realize the attic has no usable floor.

I've never gotten out from a place faster than I did then. Went back to the house to find everyone else watching the tv, grilled them on being in the barn attic, nobody admitted to being there and again, the attic had no floor. It was also pitch dark and it had no lights.

The third was just a light in the barn flickering on and off in the night, in the room where the nasty uncle used to sit and drink. This was something that most of us saw. The problem with this one was that the electricity to the old sections of the barn had been cut long ago, so there should have been no light.

I was so happy when me moved out of there.
