"Oh, this is calamity! Calamity! Oh no, he's on the floor!"
Welcome to MoG!
Meanwhile On Grad
Documenting hate speech, conspiracy theories, apologia/revisionism, and general tankie behaviour across the fediverse. Memes are welcome!
What is a Tankie?
Alternatively, a detailed blog post about Tankies.
(caution of biased source)
Basic Rules:
Sh.itjust.works Instance rules apply! If you are from other instances, please be mindful of the rules. — Basically, don't be a dick.
Hate-Speech — You should be familiar with this one already; practically all instances have the same rules on hate speech.
Apologia — (Using the Modern terminology for Apologia) No Defending, Denying, Justifying, Bolstering, or Differentiating authoritarian acts or endeavours, whether it be a Pro-CCP viewpoint, Stalinism, Islamic Terrorism or any variation of Tankie Ideology.
Revisionism — No downplaying or denying atrocities past and present. Calling Tankies shills, foreign/federal agents, or bots also falls under this rule. Extremists exist. They are real. Do not call them shills or fake users, as it handwaves their extremism.
Off-topic Discussion — Do not discuss unrelated topics to the point of derailing the thread. Stay focused on the direct content of the post, rather than engaging in arguments that lack mutual agreement.
Brigading/Trolling — If you're here because this community was linked in another thread, please refrain from maliciously voting, commenting, or manipulating the post in any way. This includes alt accounts. All votes are public, and if you are found to be brigading, you will be banned. Good-faith and honest communication is an exception.
Tankies can explain their views, but may be criticised or challenged for them. Any minor infraction of the rules may result in a warning and possibly a temporary ban.
You'll be warned if you're violating the instance and community rules. Continuing poor behaviour after being warned will result in a ban or removal of your comments. Bans typically last only 24 hours, but each subsequent infraction doubles the duration. Depending on the content, the ban time may be increased. You may request an unban at any time.
Unruffled is, at least to me, pretty clearly just referring to authoritarian states by the ML's own preferred term, not suggesting it's genuinely a socialist state. This reading seems to be confirmed by being directly followed up with a recommendation to ban communities that support those states instead of whole defederation.
I don't think it's terribly controversial that .world and SJW does tend to generate the majority of reported users besides drive-by accounts on poorly moderated instances, if only by virtue of both of them being the biggest instances.
Not to say I haven't had reports for .ml users either, but their stance isn't unreasonable.
I would've bought that a few months ago, but considering that Unruffled has since done a 180 on such issues like "Does Critical Support for the PRC make someone a tankie?", I'm disinclined to give them the benefit of the doubt. Using the preferred terminology of tankies when not talking to tankies, and when talking to someone who is anti-tankie in a bid to get them to accept tankies, is extremely questionable. Saying that the frequency is greater also suggests that it's not absolute size of problematic users that's being discussed.
That they assert that anarchists should have more in common with a red fascist instance than 'liberal' instances (which are far to the left of what most actual liberals would accept) is also telling.
Also, considering Hexbear's extremely aggressive posture, trying to portray them as 'less problematic' than .world or SJW is extremely questionable.
Yeah, if you read what was written then the thread title doesn't make much sense.

But I'm sure the commenter who has 'never seen a tankie' on Lemmy and constantly licks Russian imperialist boots and plays apologist for Ukrainian genocide is posting entirely in good faith. :)
Yeah but why would you want to look at the context, Pug did it for us! ...just don't look, it might prove him wrong.
Weird though, since Dbzer0 federates with Hexbear, which unilaterally supports authoritarianism
db0 has become really friendly twoards tankies
A lot of users from that community are literally alt accounts of .ml users and they use the instance to gain access to the places that defederated from them.
Tankies like to subvert left-libertarian movements by infiltrating them. If only they did the same to fascists (while many groups require rigorous hazing rituals and sending them your personal details, others are too dumb for them, and thus a pretty good target for infiltration).
Tankies are fascists with a weird coat of paint on them.
It's very worrisome. Can you go into detail about those alt accounts?
Who's the alts? Names, links, proof?
It's also cute that Dbzer0 keeps tabs on me even after instance-blocking my accounts for calling out this same admin on genocide apologia.
Dbzer0 has long been a tankie alt haven.
Especially popular with the corporate Ai simps and Russian trolls.
