No matter how hot the political temperature, Matt Stone and Trey Parker’s show can be counted on to go for the jugular. And with Brendan Carr in a mountain of poo and Israel’s PM in its sights, the latest episode doesn’t pull any punches

If South Park can't get away with this one after their entire history of shows, even the shit episode where they literally said they were trying to see if they could get kicked off tv, then we know Israel has WAYYYYYYY too much control over society.

Muslums got the super friends episode taken down but that was a long long time ago. And ya know, we cant have antisemetism!

[–] Asafum@feddit.nl 14 points 1 month ago (1 children)

True. Admittedly I haven't seen this episode yet, but I'd say going after Bibi is a bit different than offending Muslims by insulting their religion. I'd seriously hope they don't pull the antisemitism b.s just because they make fun of Bibi.

That's one of the things that has been so infuriating in the US lately. Can't criticize a state for their actions because Jewish people live there and so somehow a criticism of the actions of the state means you hate Jewish people... :/

[–] n3m37h@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 month ago

Thats antisemetism in a nut shell. It really has lost all meaning

[–] QuoVadisHomines@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

The Super friends episode parodied/insulted Mohammed who is a religious figure. Netanyahu is a politician and not a religious figure so he’s fair game.

  1. I didn't see the insulted part.

  2. Is that like how they have to take down all the Jesus ones?

[–] QuoVadisHomines@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

You might need to rewatch that episode understanding that recreating any living being’s image is a violation of the prohibition against graven images in Judaism/Islam.

TIL the south park drawers are Muslim

[–] QuoVadisHomines@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Im not suggesting they are. Im explaining why Muslims see making an image of their prophet so offensive.

It's #3 on most versions of the 10 Commandments so in theory it shouldn't be done by any Abrahamic faith but Rome really liked graven imagery so Christians have statues and paintings of their religious figures.

I think there were threats of violence involved in the super friends one.

[–] n3m37h@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

No, there was no violence, it was just because they made muhammed (the god) a character and muslums find it offebsive to depict their 'god'

[–] onslaught545@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I said threats of violence, not actual violence.

[–] n3m37h@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

You mean threata of violence against South Park by muslums, correct?

[–] onslaught545@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Yes, they were threatened by a group called Revolution Muslim.

Ok, I miss read your comment lmao Yeah, religious groups tend to have extreme radicals

[–] Wakmrow@hexbear.net 17 points 1 month ago

I think maybe them prosecuting a genocide with active funding and political support from the US government already shows that?

Funnily enough, I felt like they skirted the satire line quite well with the Israel portrayal.

It was accurate but not that overly offensive (*except to those who deny a holocaust and hospital bombings). It almost felt like they held back on "attacking Israel".

They could have at least given Net&yahoo the Plan B treatment.

Let's see what the future holds!

[–] Cassanderer@thelemmy.club 3 points 1 month ago

Bullshit. If they couldn't say anything a little more prescient about what's going on in Gaza they shouldn't have said anything at all. They know God damn well what Israel is doing and I do too, and so does the writer that put the headline on this article originally.

[–] incompetent@programming.dev 44 points 1 month ago (1 children)

"let's rip at Benjamin Netanyahu"

Ha! That was the tamest thing I've ever seen on South Park. And the scene with Bibi was only for a few seconds at the very end. The headline is such hyperbole.

Mother fucking goddammit son of a bitch

I fucking knew it, too. God dammit

[–] Cassanderer@thelemmy.club 30 points 1 month ago (3 children)

I read about the episode in the guardian and it did not sound all that risque to justify the title here.

It sounded kind of funny though, did not sound like it touched on the fact that Netanyahu is a fucking Nazi, that the Israelis are Nazis, and openly supporting Nazis in other Western countries. I would consider those issues going there but that's just because I live in fucking reality.

[–] Evil_Shrubbery@thelemmy.club 14 points 1 month ago

Just a standard (western?) 'stern Jewish mother' joke.

It's not exactly a comedic achievement.

It was so non-comedic it makes me think they prob just wanted to have their opinion out in public ("now").

[–] Edgarallenpwn@midwest.social 8 points 1 month ago

Its south park. They get a few chuckles out of most but isnt too groundbreaking if you are informed.

[–] BurgerBaron@piefed.social 3 points 1 month ago

I'm of your view but I wonder if it'll cause some public crashouts anyways stemming from persecution fetishes.

[–] Vinny_93@lemmy.world 19 points 1 month ago

You could just tell they mixed in the Brendan Carr stuff later and that this episode was supposed to be about children betting and Gaza. They did a really good job again though, the FCC stuff was very tongue-in-cheek.

[–] Flyberius@hexbear.net 14 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Does the episode humanise the Palestinians and validate their struggle or does it go for some both sides bullshit

[–] redchert@lemmygrad.ml 7 points 1 month ago

Palestinians and their militant struggle sadly remain absent from western mainstream discourse. It might give workers the wrong idea.

[–] wewbull@feddit.uk 1 points 1 month ago

It says nothing about them. It's all about Jews Vs Israel.

Isn't it time for your nap, Trump?

[–] Red_October@hexbear.net 2 points 1 month ago

They didn’t “go” anywhere. That was probably the weakest episode I’ve ever seen. I figured at least Matt Stone would have stronger feelings than milquetoast, play it safe, completely uninformed, liberal bullshit like:

“Netanyahu is the only thing responsible for all of this.”

“The conflict is centuries old.”

“Jewish people, especially in the U.S., are the real victims here.”

The suffering of the Palestinian people wasn’t even mentioned outside of one “Thousands of people are dying!” line. I don’t know where this estimation came from, but the numbers are a fuckload higher than that. I know south park is a satire show that’s never been groundbreaking if you’re informed, but compare this to how fucking edgy and gung-ho they were about drawing Mohammad. They made it a massive fucking deal. I’ve been lifelong fans of Trey Parker and Matt Stone. Cannibal the Musical is one of my favorite movies.

This has made me lose all respect for them. Two years straight of a live streamed genocide but the real problem is children in the U.S. gambling.

Do they haunt him with the ghosts of Buchenwald past?
