That's just the namespace policy of LiberaChat (i.e. we're not a specific software project, nor some other project of the kind outlined there).
TIL. Thanks.
I'd be remiss if I didn't mention that with IRC, you need to stay connected constantly—unless you use something like IRC Cloud or an IRC bouncer (soju, znc, etc.), which require a service or server of some sort.
I bring this up because I see a lot of people ask a question and then leave without waiting. If you want to ask a question or participate in a discussion, you'll need to keep your IRC connection on; otherwise, you won't see what others say while you're disconnected.
Man, I haven't used IRC since the early 2000's. It must have been 20 years now. I'm trying to connect using Konversation, the KDE IRC client. I can't seem to connect to the irc server.
Irc is dead atleast on libre chat
It's become so complicated. To use Libera chat IRC I need to register with a name and email now? Back then I just connected to the server, joined a channel and started chatting. Now I can't send messages or anything. Everything's blocked. It sucks.
its always moderation . nostr is basically irc now but much better also it is filled with crypto bros . 1 thing i dont like about nostr is there will always be this probability that someone will generate same private keys
If you really want privacy, you could run I2P. Here's some notes on making an IRC server over I2P.
