Please don't take this meme too seriously, I want both platforms to succeed.

NodeBB getting left out despite having more users than both:

Picture of a small rodent on a sofa with tears drawn streaming from their eyes and pooling around them.

[–] Sunshine@piefed.ca 9 points 3 months ago

We all love you too NodeBB!

[–] Zombie@feddit.uk 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

What are some NodeBB servers to check out?

[–] flamingos@feddit.uk 7 points 3 months ago

Most of the instances I know about are focused on a particular thing, mostly software, and I'm not aware of a general purpose NodeBB instance.

cc @julian@community.nodebb.org any recommendations?

Mbin has <1k users combined across 10 instances that allow sign-ups (and adding Kbin to it helps not at all with only one instance remaining, in Poland)

PieFed.social alone already has nearly 1k active users, and then there are several tens of instances (surely more of them allow sign-ups than it indicates though, like PieFed.zip)

Plus the user base of PieFed has quadrupled in the last few months, rather than stagnating and actually decreasing in the same time period.

So this gun fight is already over, pardner 🤠

FediDB has them at 21 servers with 1.2K MAU.

tardigram.com does not show up in my link, but does in yours. Perhaps Fediverse Explorer is only showing sites that have an English option, whereas FediDB includes other languages by default?

[–] flamingos@feddit.uk 5 points 3 months ago

No, Fediverse Explorer is pulling the info from Nodeinfo which doesn't expose language settings.

These kinds of sites just suffer from an inherent problem of never being able to have the full network. Neither has https://bookwyr.me/ in the Piefed lists despite existing.

I don’t know what the one on the left is

[–] Sunshine@piefed.ca 11 points 3 months ago

That’s Mbin.

[–] sga@piefed.social 8 points 3 months ago

mbin/kbin (they are nearly as old as lemmy)

[–] pruwybn@discuss.tchncs.de 12 points 3 months ago (3 children)

It's not threadiverse anymore?

[–] Nemo@slrpnk.net 11 points 3 months ago

confusion with Facebook's "Threads" platform cooled that one significantly

[–] Sunshine@piefed.ca 8 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Some people don’t like that term anymore.

[–] cm0002@piefed.world 9 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Oh got damnit, did Carl forget to send out the memo again‽

[–] OiMate@feddit.uk 2 points 3 months ago

Why did you kill this person Carl?

[–] mephiska@fedia.io 1 points 3 months ago

I was told there'd be cake.

[–] OpenStars@piefed.social 5 points 3 months ago

(also @sunshine@piefed.ca)

I did a poll + discussion at https://discuss.online/post/19430152 and the consensus was that Threadiverse predated Threads plus all the more so now that it died people refused to back down from it, plus liked it more than Forumverse or other terms. I have no skin in this game but I wish we'd just pick one, whatever it may be:-|.

Though if Mbin wants to gain more traction they should further develop the !interstellar@kbin.earth app on iOS 😉

[–] RandomStickman@fedia.io 4 points 3 months ago (2 children)

In terms of zeitgeist I think Piefed has won by far. I hardly see people suggest mbin as an alternative to Lemmy anymore. I'm pretty happy with mbin though! There are dozens of us!

[–] mephiska@fedia.io 5 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Mbin in compact mode looks the most like old reddit compact. That's what keeps me on Fedia.io. I can't get either Lemmy or Piefed to look quite as clean and compact as mbin.

[–] RandomStickman@fedia.io 2 points 3 months ago

that's what made me stick with Mbin as well

Takes a lot of humility to admit your favourite platform may not be the winner in popularity or ideals.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 5 points 2 months ago

We can all still hang out across them all, so IMO popularity of a single platform doesn't really matter that much. If they were all separately contained and couldn't share content with each other like X to Reddit or Facebook, etc, that would make a bigger difference cuz people would want to go where the rest of the people are.
