Big brain tech dude got yet another clueless take over at HackerNews etc? Here's the place to vent. Orange site, VC foolishness, all welcome.

Common DragonCon W. The whole con was a lovely reprieve from the bullshit-industrial complex.

Went a few years back, and it is next level. Almost too much to take in for this introvert.

Loved the blow up T-Rex mosh pit, and the line of people in Andor prison uniforms going to the pool while chanting "One way out!"

I think it is genuinely lovely but also I think its starting to strain under its own weight.

There's a lot of outdoor queueing in either direct Georgia 90° sunshine or the pouring rain, and due to the rule you can't queue for more than an hour beforehand, a weird pseudo-queue system, and none of the venues can hold enough audience.

They have started to cap attendance, so at least it won't get worse. Also, come checkout the American Sci-Fi Classics panels, usually lots of room.

The lines weren't nearly as gnarly this year, but the mild weather and extra positivity surely helped!

Y’all are having fun without me? Wow, rude

We should have an awful meet up next year to gloat over our victory

Wow. Good on them.

this is apparently the same Oriana Gerez five years ago https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VJGZnCy7Muw

it was 2020 and she was already "AI is inevitable"

from particle physics to art scams

(her sound is bad enough I'm not bothering to listen myself and youtube's transcriber choked on it, but it retains curiosity value)

Heartwarming: There Actually Is Justice In This World

Pure, unfiltered schadenfreude for today - this was a very fun read.

update: so the AI slopster is Gerez herself. She pulled the same scam at Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo in 2024 — get accepted with real paintings, then fill the booth with AI slop. C2E2 also has a rule against AI art, but nobody threw her out that time. Now I’m honestly surprised I can’t find Gerez getting into NFTs.

haha, yes makes you wonder. That kind of scam prob is safer to do under a fake name, so wouldn't be surprised if it was revealed she did.
