Now I'm thinking about environmental racism, the capitalist class truly love shitting where they don't eat. Fuck factory farming, fuck oil pipelines and fuck AI data centers. There are more things to list but I'm hungry rn. Guess it's colonialism all the way down same like with the police.
Ethnic Minorities and People of Color
Official Title of this Community: Ethnic Minorities and People of Color
Why is the title different?
We like to have fun here.
What is this place? A safe space for underrepresented peoples and peoples of color to talk, chill, and vibe.
What are the basic rules of the community?
-
Follow Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines. Non negotiable. This is the bedrock and mods will make decisions with this always in mind.
-
This community is for ethnic minorities and people of color. This is a safe space where such people can freely discuss their struggles, insight, and thoughts without fear. If you are not, we respectfully ask you do not post or comment here. A future community will be established to allow for racial discussions with a mixed userbase. However, remember, comments here must still respect Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines.
-
Irony Racism is still racism. Racism is bad m'kay? We will treat irony racism and bad faith racist satire as racism. Will wield the ban hammer accordingly.
-
No sectarianism: This is an identity channel not a channel for you all to complain about why XYZ isn't the "one true leftism". Take that to another place.
-
Stupidpol is not allowed. Stupidpol is class reductionist. We are an identity community. Thinking like stupidpol ignores the struggles of the oppressed, their voices, and their need for unique support. Nothing says oppression more than someone saying that the identity you have is "not real" and that if you only thought like them you'd see what your "real" identity is. Mods reserve the right to ban users and content who promote stupidpol, stupidpol memes, and other class reductionist thinking.
FAQ
I don't look XYZ and/or sometimes I can pass as white so I don't know if I can post here. Can I?
-
This place is for ethnic minorities and people of color. This includes those of mixed heritage and those who may be "white" but are of an ethnicity that is a minority in their area (i.e. Kurds, etc) If you've experienced oppression due to your identity that is not based on sexual / gender identification, you are welcome here.
-
Moreover, for our American audience, we have people from around the world who are "white" but are oppressed due to being a minority in their country. They are and should be welcomed here.

And it will get worse. They already try to pin all the blame on India etc like cumulative effective isn't a thing
it's the "our industrial revolution was cool and good but theirs is unnecessary" shit turning around like they actually care instead of an attempt to knee cap other countries to preserve their power.
To add to this: if you think about where most oil refinement facilities are located as well as other environmentally harmful industries (think chemical processing, industrial farming, etc) in the US and Canada, the people who are almost always disproportionately affected are black and brown people.
I was thinking about this because there was recently a story of how some white suburbanites are upset because a storage battery facility was going to be put in the neighborhood. And I started thinking about how much attention the story would have gotten if it had been a predominantly black/brown neighborhood.
Shit fucking sucks.
Holy shit, what the fuck causes white boomer women to think I, a 30 something brown man, would be interested them?
These are the vibes I’m getting at work and it’s extremely disturbing.
Idk, their projection and fetishization - for a lack of a better term, orientalism.
This reminded me of when I got a kiss from a white lady in her 40's.
😳
I used to not mind this idea towards myself but then I
myself pretty hard and did some self crit. I can't lie a lot of it has to do with loneliness but still I'm sorry you have to deal with this bs
I was talking to my dad today sharing some good and very important family news.
Dad: I'm just a little sad right now, my friend was killed yesterday.
Me: Oh my God! What happened? Which friend?
D: My friend Charlie.
M: Charlie? Who's Charlie?
D: Charlie Kirk.
M: PFFFFFFT LOL
Apparently we all lost a really intelligent man who just wanted to help other people. And he was not talking about the killer.
Bringing up racism in white people's favorite escapism fantasy settings always leaves them reeling especially if they feel themselves as progressive in some manner. The headspace I get from them is "I'm not doing a racism myself just letting it slide from friends/family/strangers whenever it comes up, how am I the bad guy?" They more confrontational at being called racist than they feel like confronting the racist culture around them.
I get my cake today, and I'm so excited!!!

Nice.
gay cake !
i dont think ill ever get into superhero media in a way a lot of people are. its like greek mythology/percy jackson-esque fandoms. theres just very little for me to identify with. the exceptionalism of it all. yes im sure its easy to be a "good person" when you literally cant lose because youre that much better than anyone else. pretty much no stakes either because of that. its just masturbatory.
read something like journey to the west or watch the 1986 show instead.
Dragon Ball avoids this issue by being peak
thats the thing, dragon ball shares a lot of elements with superheroes yes, but it was first heavily inspired by journey to the west first and foremost. goku is exceptional but not in the ways thats totally inherent to his birthright. among the saiyans he was a destined low class warrior. half of the time he's sparring with forces matching him or even beyond him. most of the time the struggle against antagonists in each arc is a group effort that doesnt necessarily rely solely on his individual role.
its these elements that i think is how goku managed to resonate with so much with people in the global south. it aint just a meme
That's one reason Spiderman was popular. He's very relatable guy that is the underdog in a lot of fights and an underdog in his personal life. A working class guy doing the right thing. Jokes a ton because he's legit nervous so he isn't the stoic stone faced guy like a lot of traditional heroes are. One of the best scenes in a superhero movie is in spiderman 2 when the civilians took his mask off and found he was a kid. I just don't get that feeling much with MCU spiderman tbh
I think I despise annoying online dumbasses who really got no grounding just say gibberish at all times. These are either from burgerland or broader europe. They have no idea of about any history local or international.
Like how do you see some protests in Indonesia and be like this some CIA funded crap to overthrow X. No you dumbass that already happened. It was overthrowing sukarno. Imagine being this fucking dumb. Like how do you think having relations with brics is gonna get this prabowo overthrown. Brics is not a coherent block its a ingroup trading block to withstand shocks from west. Its not the next comintern. Whoa watchout vietnam you're getting regime changed for having interest in brics.
Some of these people also said the same about sri lankan tamils speaking up against genocidal collaborators who happen to be nominally communist. They immediately jumped to say wow these tamil people are CIA assets who want to sow discord. Imagine being this vile to portray people seeking justice for genocide under Sinhalese nationalists as some sinister force.
Same with like iran or pakistan. There were these protests in regarding mahsa amini who died in police custody. This seems pretty controversial to say cause these folk immediately deny her death or circumstances very ardently. The controversial part is apparently to suggest cops kill people or do extrajudicial stuff. But that apparently makes one a western regime change supporter. I guess people don't got grievances all through covid and took to protest. Only seeing western posts or news made people go protest and do regime change I guess. Yeah how about that regime change, people went and protested. There were crackdowns and even shootings. But ultimately even government officials had to condemn the police and even release protestors. But real attempts from Western powers did happen. Like assassinations of Palestinian leaders when they were in iran or using Israel to drag war. But nah nah you only do regime change by posts on twitter and ngo crap.
This happens with baloch issues or rohingya issues. Where there is straight dismissal that these people suffer oppression. They are grossly painted as pawns for indian or Israeli intelligence by like certain outlets like cradle or mangopress. Pakistan's trade relations faltering and them targeting minorities are two separate things. But in teamsports all boils down to what favorite faction supports what and not what's grounding.
My long rant isn't to downplay attempts at coups or whatever. People don't grasp shit beyond vague headlines. Yeah imran khan was ousted that doesn't really need much outside pressure. He already fell out of favor. Bangladesh didn't specifically need outside help to push away hasina. People can withstand austerity to a point and beyond that its really hard to not go against administrations. There is a lack of any historical understanding and even further lack of material understanding. This makes me despise these faux anti imperialist people who are otherwise reactionary anyway gather credence among left.
some people need to learn to say "I don't know anything about this, where can I learn more"
I remember this episode of static shock where Virgil's dad was dating a cop
and like Virgil runs away from the cops when they were gonna go through his backpack. The show goes out of its way of justifying from the cops perspective because they really really need to find something super duper important 🥺 nvm 4th amendment protections.
I know it's still cape shit but in the first season I quite liked it because of it's themes of community and understanding. The show got bigger and eventually folded into the DC universe but that wasn't why I was there to begin with.
I'm at a point where I functionally can no longer see myself in a relationship with a non-Black person again. I've been thinking a lot on this subject, and my mind has been kind of uncertain these past few months or so.
What I ultimately came to realize is that, in the context of how I view love, there will be always be something critically lacking in any relationship I'd have with a non-Black person.
At first, the thought of continuing to accept non-Black partners seemed possibly within my reach so long as they truly were based, were radical, and understood how to fight against anti-Blackness, and as great as some non-Black people are in these regards, I'm now at a point where the thought of dating any non-Black person feels as right as the thought of dating a conservative.
Of course, that's not me saying it's as bad—hell no. My point is that it just indescribably feels "off" in a way that no amount of other things we have in common can reconcile. Very much needed solidarity will always be missing.
Ideally, I want a partner who has a lot of things in common with me (the aforementioned 5 traits I've brought up several times). However, to keep my pool somewhat open, I'm going to base my search for a partner (when I'm ready—not a priority at the moment) off of these three things: Blackness, queerness, and veganism.
I'll go from there, but what I can certainly say now is that I will never entertain romantic and/or intimate encounters with non-Black people ever again.
I'm at a point where I functionally can no longer see myself in a relationship with a non-Black person again. I've been thinking a lot on this subject, and my mind has been kind of uncertain these past few months or so.
I landed in a different position, but I think this is something a lot of Black people have to reckon with internally at some point, and I'm glad you found your answer!

I was followed by a bunch of men telling me how good my pussy smelled, I don't like going out.

Police watch me sometimes when I'm at the park, they haven't harassed me or anything and I'm usually too zoned out reading/writing/listening to music most of the time. I do think they are getting annoyed with me being so boring, idk having to preform and like this is eh. I'm used to by now always being put under a microscope, like it doesn't help my anxiety most of the time but sometimes I just wanna be invisible.
Still a little iffy here since all the stuff went down about burning the flag, but talking to other POC eases my anxiety.
Talked with some coworkers, we're all various kinds of POC that's been in the headlines lately, and it's been so relaxing. We all fundamentally understand racism because we experience it. The big difference is some other POC are feeling it from the state now while Black folk been feeling it since we were brought here. Regardless, we're able to agree that we feel it and it's all connected and we have solidarity with each others over it and that's enough to keep me going.
Just also wish my coworkers didn't have the liberal slant but one thing at a time.
Same!
This exemplifies why I always say "I'm Black before anything else."
In my opinion (might be a hot take depending on who you ask), I seriously will not hesitate to say that well-meaning Black liberals are easier for me to get along with than a whole lot of white Marxists.
Hearing the blue genocide whites at my job talking about how evil it is to celebrate Kirk getting got
I'm at this point fully convinced that most white ass Americans all share to a degree, the same exact white supremacist views as Kirk did.
Even on this site there was some soul talm bout oh ryan reynolds just wants to find common ground with chuds. Its like what common ground? Everything the left in America hell several libs (seen chuds agree with it but keep being in denial) fight for.... Benefits them too
healthcare, better work conditions etc.
Meanwhile these mfs fighting to strip civil rights of damn near every non rich white person. Like wtf do they even stand for? That kirk guy the right are crying for.... Say civil rights act was a mistake. This is who many people say is the realest in a crazy world. I see why China has a great firewall tbh
Just had a trip in Quebec City. Feels like any other Canadian city but
edition...
3 HBCU campuses on lockdown from death threats. White man kill white supremacists HBCU gets threatened. Most on brand American shit
But remember, Charlie didn't deserve to die for his opinions which many a white supremacist also hold
Ayo funny thing is she is roasting the shit outta him. She became kinda based
My non-white coworker, who takes public transit, is very shaken up about what happened in NC. I know it's not technically racial but also I know it is.
A whitey just shot up 20 children not even a month ago. Random violence is as amerikan as apple pie but whiteys wanna act like only Black people are violent.
So the supreme court in America ruled its okay to racially profile huh. I hate these motherfuckers
Managed to find an Afro-Caribbean non-binary therapist willing to provide pro-bono therapy for me. This is real nice. My last therapist was a dismissive cis white gay man who was deeply infuriating and ineffective.
Ngl the Kirk stuff did worry me some the other day because of the possible back lash but like if I have to monitor every
fit I would never get things done. Focusing on my HVAC career and the possibility finally of helping to lift my family out of poverty. I got goals and a future for when
finally goes down
My dreads been lookin a way that got me feelin like Shadow the Hedeghog (and I love it)
Are the farmers facing bankruptcy begging for help from the government gonna be called welfare Queens or is that only for
Charlie Kirk: “If I see a Black pilot, I’m going to be like, ‘Boy, I hope he’s qualified.’”
Shit you don't have to worry about black pilots..... Or any pilot again. Look at death laughing
look at it
