Funny enough in Giraffes the same nerve goes all the way down their long neck and comes back up. So intelligent.

Hey! Noone said it wasn't designed by the intern ROFL

I'm pretty sure that EVERY proponent of the intelligent design nonsense claim that it was designed by the infallible head honcho, actually 😄

Pretty sure it's just a way for Theists to pretend like their faith doesn't conflict with pretty basic observations.

I could be wrong, though.

Newsflash: YHWH is an incompetent designer, kicked out from engineering school, always drunk, while his fans write all of it off as he's working in mysterious ways.

Like the Jackson Pollock of creature design.

Makes stars in such a way that stupid humans have no choice but to conclude they're billions of years old

Masterful gambit, sir!

My favorite example of "intelligent design" is the whale hip bone:
an illustration of whale that displays its skeleton including its hipbone which isn't attached to rest of skeleton, and just kind of floating around the whale's groin area

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 3 weeks ago

🎵 The hip bone's connected to the.. Nope! 🎵

Seriously though, why hasn't nearsightedness been fixed by evolution yet. It seems like a simple thing to fix (just make the eyeball a bit shorter) and a huge evolutionary disadvantage if you can't distinguish a gnu running away from a sabretooth running towards you.

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 3 weeks ago

why hasn't nearsightedness been fixed by evolution yet.

Because nearsighted people fuck.

Evolution doesn't optimize us for maximum efficiency. It just weeds out the genes that aren't passed on.

In fact, since gneese and teeth sabre stopped being a major concern and staring at things close to us has become essential to survival, progressively MORE of us have become nearsighted both literally and figuratively.

Seems like the eye was fine until humans stopped getting as much light in their day as they used to. Myopia is on the rise, and studies indicate that the eye tends to elongate when eyes don't get as much light as we evolved getting.

[–] AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

So we just need to squint more?

[–] Strath@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

I had a coworker that paid hundreds in the '90s for a video cassette series that boiled down to exactly that. Spend more time outside and squint until your vision is healed.

🤣 But according to that documentary, nearsightedness should die out, because the people that sit in dark rooms and read books all night instead of fucking around don't procreate. So we might become idiots, but at least idiots without glasses.

Was designed to nerf us so we could not kill god.
