Are we pretending that the Tech Giants They Work For actually gave a flying fuck about their welfare in the first place?

[–] SebaDC@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 5 days ago

They care. They are like: "guys! Our yoy slave burn rate is through the roof! What do we do to increase our margins?"

Someone talks about kids. Someone about prisoners. Someone lobbies to reduce taxes.

Always the same shit.

Why would the tech companies care? They treat the "gig workers" with the utmost contempt.

Because a glut of workers is what keeps their entire business viable. ICE deporting their misclassified worker pool is going to drive up labor costs by decreasing the supply.

Their labor costs are whatever the fuck they want to pay precisely because they work extremely hard to keep their misidentified worker pool, and all of the gig jobs pay similar amounts. What you're delivering or transporting may be different, but it's basically the same everywhere.

Makes my blood boil. Am I shocked? No. But I’m still very angry. Just yet another reason to boycott.

Remember when farm owners influenced Trump to say there would be carve-outs for undocumented farm workers, but there was an intence MAGA backlash? I wonder if we will see something similar here when delivery companies have to pay more for delivery workers.

The difference is that these companies and their delivery workers aren't necessary for the economy at all.

Farmers are actually necessary as a fundamental foundation. Regardless of the MAGA delusion machine, reality does actually matter sometimes.
