80s baby who was always told "you just don't try hard enough". Sitting in my messy house, with two leaks that need to be addressed, having just been promoted for the second time in a year and feeling very called out.

You’re doing a good job. Not sure if you needed to hear that from an internet stranger, but I felt called out too so you’re not alone.

Though I'm a cishet man and my symptoms were more classic until puberty and I never had anything resembling a career 🤷

[–] Lumidaub@feddit.org 20 points 7 months ago

I don't have a career which means that this one isn't about me at all. So I got that goin' for me which is nice.

I feel called out except for the girl part.

[–] Sc00ter@lemmy.zip 15 points 7 months ago

Me too. I always had good grades, but had no organization skills. My homework log was asking the guy at the locker next to me what was due tomorrow. Great career now with 3 degrees. Struggle to get anything started, but when momentum is going, i cant stop.

I always suspected adhd, especially when online communities became more prevalent. It wasnt until a marriage councilor called me out on my ADHD and was stunned Id never been diagnosed.

I keep telling myself my burnout (which lead to finding out I'm AuDHD) is because of menopause which I don't think has actually started yet...so absolutely not looking forward to it actually happening.

I'm going to fill the tub with e gel and just live in it.

Oh hey, me too! Good times eh? I finally feel like I’ve balanced out a bit with getting on ADHD meds, my brain works again.

[–] Arcanepotato@crazypeople.online 1 points 7 months ago (1 children)

The meds help for sure but they haven't quite made me a human being yet.

[–] ghost_towels@sh.itjust.works 2 points 7 months ago

Yup. They got me back to functioning, basically where I was before the breakdown. But I feel like now that I know that I’ve always been living in hard mode, that it could be better. Unfortunately I don’t have a dr, but I do have a kinda telehealth dr who’s been lovely so I’m going to broach looking at different meds. I’ve waited a year so she doesn’t think I’m looking for drugs, but has been receptive to me mentioning that I’d like a change.

The amount of times I was told I am not living up to my potential like I can control when my brain works amazing through willpower.

Someone who was 15 in 1985 would be in their mid 50s now, not 40s. Sorry.

[–] Lumidaub@feddit.org 12 points 7 months ago

Who said 15 and 1985? Some people had so much potential at 5 in 1988.

[–] ScoffingLizard@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 7 months ago

I was getting my ass beaten by teachers everyday for part of the 80s. I am in my 40s. This definitely speaks to me.
