DICE is yet to give clarity on map sizes, comment section is the usual dumpster fire.

What a shitty title. They could just leave out the first part, wouldn't change the meaning.

[–] Deyis@beehaw.org 15 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

They could have taken out "sweaty" and kept the same meaning but that probably wouldn't have driven the same engagement.

[–] ranandtoldthat@beehaw.org 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

"Sweaty" has a specific connotation in video games, so it does provide some meaning.

[–] Deyis@beehaw.org 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

A specifically negative and demeaning connotation which isn't necessary.

[–] ranandtoldthat@beehaw.org 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Maybe? I'm not that deep in "gamer" culture, so I always just thought of it as descriptive of a particular intensity of play that leads to sweaty palms. We all experience that from time to time, some prefer it, others don't.

No, it means the guys who don't take hygiene seriously. The Cartman Gamers, so to speak.

[–] Vodulas@beehaw.org 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

No, it means the other. It is typically used in competitive games. The unshowered gamer is kind of an outdated trope at this point.

Interesting. TIL

often used interchangeably with “try-hard” as a newer version of the terminology

Smells as bad as it sounds.

Having never played a battlefield game, having last played COD when MW2 released: good! Not every game in the same genre needs to play the same way, and I suspect it's healthier this way for the "soldier shooter" genre to propose different kinds of experiences.

a "traditional battlefield experience" for me will always be the guadalcanal map. are we getting that back?

[–] Deyis@beehaw.org 9 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

For me, it's crashing on take-off on Tobruk which I don't think we'll ever get back.

[–] nullpotential@lemmy.dbzer0.com 13 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

For me it's getting sniped, respawning, getting sniped, respawning, getting sniped...

[–] Deyis@beehaw.org 4 points 2 weeks ago

You should definitely consider playing Hell Let Loose!

[–] SirActionSack@aussie.zone 7 points 2 weeks ago

Gotta be getting team killed for a vehicle.

[–] JillyB@beehaw.org 2 points 2 weeks ago

If it's not a solid 10 minutes to load a map on my parents e-machines PC, it doesn't feel like Battlefield.

Desert Combat was so much fun. Really great memories from that mod.

[–] JillyB@beehaw.org 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Is that the one with the A10 and cluster bombs?

[–] t3rmit3@beehaw.org 1 points 1 week ago

I think so. I was mostly a chopper pilot flying blackhawks so I don't recall most of the fixed wing aircraft, but an A10 would make sense.

[–] Flamekebab@piefed.social 11 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Interesting.. I felt like I was the only person that doesn't care for that kind of movement in shooters.

[–] Deyis@beehaw.org 12 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

It really depends on the kind of shooter and the average caffeine intake of the people playing it. Works great in Titanfall but doesn't make sense for Battlefield.

[–] Flamekebab@piefed.social 4 points 2 weeks ago

It feels like an additional layer of mechanics that I didn't sign up for. I used it as necessary when playing Titanfall 2 but didn't care for it there either!

[–] TabbsTheBat@pawb.social 8 points 2 weeks ago

Mm movement :3

[–] DieserTypMatthias@lemmy.ml 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Just give them Counter-Strike running speeds with slow walk and with crouch.

[–] Deyis@beehaw.org 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

You'd run faster with your knife out.

Hey at least they are getting a heads up, valve nerfed bunny hopping with the cs 1.6 patch out of the fucking blue, and it really decimated the tfc communities skills, as many of the best left the game.
