On a related note, does anyone know of a good way to listen to podcasts that doesn't use Spotify, apple or google?
You can subscribe to podcasts via RSS. I use AntennaPod on Android, but there are loads of other solutions. The whole point of podcasts is that you don't need to go through 'platforms'. Back in the day, the term for the client app was 'podcatcher' so that might be worth searching for on whatever os you're using.
