Better, @cm0002@lemmy.world.

There's a bit of criticism of systemic racism & sexism in the intial text (which is probably written by a real person). And it's cool that Thriftbooks is not a subsidiary of Amazon.

But it's borderline spam anyhow. Clearly written for affiliate links hidden behind 3rd party click collectors. Books aren't critically reviewed, just summarized (text probably taken from elsewhere). And the third party scripts are legion. Which means: collecting as much data on me & you as possible.

I had a closer look at your profile; you don't only post but also moderate a lot. To an extent that makes me wonder what else you do with your life. Maybe it doesn't take as much time as I imagine, but in any case you are creating an imbalance: this is not the way to create a decentralised alternative to corporate social media.

At the same time I see clearly that you won't listen to one single user, i.e. me. But maybe I speak out what others think, too?

If you cannot stop posting indiscriminately, with a high noise/signal ratio, maybe just give this community a pass?

For other readers: OP has posted AI slop on this sub several times already, been criticized for it, asked to refrain:

https://lemmy.world/post/33844438
https://lemmy.world/post/33575649

edit: In retrospect, I wouldn't have reacted so strongly to this article, hadn't OP posted 100% AI slop earlier. Let's hope it's a step in the right direction.

edit2: I just realized that OP has another account, @cm0002@programming.dev - of course I can't be 100% sure it's the same person, but the posting profile is very similar - just more about tech stuff. So, if they're the same person, they post even more each day. That's insane.

I have nothing about most power posters; most do it with dedication, i.e. they choose only a few topics, and choose articles more carefully. Not this one though.

Ya know those were just cross-posts from .ml, but just to be a little petty, I went ahead and posted my own link.

Don't tell others what they can and cannot post if you're not a mod of the comm.

Don’t tell others what they can and cannot post if you’re not a mod of the comm.

I'm not "telling" you; I'm pointing out. Trying to get you to think about it, constructively. Maybe initiate real dialog about what Lemmy should or shouldn't be. You, however, are "telling" me rn, even resorting to pulling rank.

Go back and reread your original comment to me yesterday and tell me how that's not telling me how I can and cannot interact with the thrediverse

[–] A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

You're clearly not interested in having a dialog here. Just controversy.

Yeah that's how he acts anytime he's called out, it's not you, it's him.

Was this article written by an AI ?

[–] A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 6 points 2 days ago

Maybe partly AI, but it's borderline spam anyhow. Written for affiliate links hidden behind 3rd party click collectors. Books aren't critically reviewed, just summarized (text probably taken from elsewhere). And the third party scripts are legion. Which means: collecting as much data on you as possible.

This is a good question and invites one to think about the invasiveness of generated text /s

Not sure how these would be defined, but the reading list made me think of these graphic novels:

Dave Dorman's "Rail" and "Wasted Lands":

https://www.magnetic-press.com/wasted-lands-omnibus/

Dean Motter's Mister X universe.

This is going right into the « list »

It's a good list!
