I don't want there to be any one meta build. You take your build in whatever direction the match demands.

I havent played the past two patches but I think in general spirit builds are way more fun than gun builds. Spirit builds let you focus more on your character's abilities and cooldown management, but many gun builds boil down to hold left click to melt the enemy.
Some characters like wraith make sense to be gun focused, but I think it shouldn't be viable for most heroes to be 100% gun focused. This is a balance problem since they allowed any item slot to be used by any item type, now people can keep stacking gun items without mixing it up which leads to boring playstyles.
Haze is actually the exception to this.
When balanced right, she should be underpowered.
That's when she becomes about stack-building. You need to get about a full mag in on an enemy to "activate" her real damage, and the mind-games, movement, and ability-use around getting there make for very active gameplay.
As for gun-builds being a mindless way to play in general, they can be, but it easily backfires. If your only real damage is gun-based, a 3200 disarming hex completely counters you no matter what hero you're playing.
I've turned games against wraiths and ginnis's by instructing my team to buy two disarms in addition to mine, and coordinating on who and when they are used. It's insane how hard you can turn a match against a team that has gone full gun.
But then the problem is that gun builds are too samey, which could also be changed, not that certain characters should only be allowed to be spirit builds, no?
