Ohhhhh. I thought this was like when I realized that my furnace had a filter and that it needed to be changed regularly. And that I had not been upgrading it regularly.

If you have heating or cooling air vents in the rooms in your house then those sometimes have filters that need to be changed too

Talk about deceptive marketing

I bet the first shot after the cleaning was bomb though. Lol

Still being scrubbed. This residue is years old.

[–] Kimjongtooill@sh.itjust.works 3 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I'm guessing they arent cafiza backflushing either?

They just stopped using a blade grinder recently.

The road to redemption has started

Forwards and upwards from here! A 1Zpresso, a scale and now a clean shower screen!

That reminds me, I’m overdue to β€œdescale” my coffeemaker

I did mine recently and air got trapped in the flow metre - had a bad seal & was pulling up air. Machine thought it had not ran enough water through to complete the cycle so was stuck in a loop.

Also there isn't a method for cleaning out the grinder, apart from opening the whole unit...

Gotta say I'm not a fan of De'Longhi

[–] Cataphract@lemmy.ml 5 points 4 months ago

should probably give it De'shortgoodbye then.

What a mess. Remind never to get a machine with built in grinder

[–] dai@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago

My old Breville was great, had a built in grinder which was easy to clean. But the Ms wanted a new machine. Just wished I'd kept the Breville in the shed.

Honestly considering an upgrade to a decent unit, but living in the country (AU) doesn't give me much options on the 2nd hard market locally.

I use distilled water to curb the need for de-scaling. Still needs a bit apparently so I do it once a year.

[–] Illegalmexicant@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I guess I should google what that means.

[–] Brunbrun6766@lemmy.world 5 points 4 months ago (1 children)

It's breaking down the mineral build up from hard water. Nothing gross just something that happens

[–] AA5B@lemmy.world 1 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

Except it’s also for any mold buildup

Another downside of Keurig machines is there’s no way to drain them

[–] usualsuspect191@lemmy.ca 3 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Wait, why's that in scare quotes? I'm too afraid to check urban dictionary for what this may mean

[–] myotheraccount@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago

Before seeing what community this is, I was sure the post is about a shower drain, and waffle stomping

[–] avidamoeba@lemmy.ca 2 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Recently learned that de-scaling a boiler exposes you to lead leaching from the brass walls till it acquires some scale. 🫠

Some discussion here. The problem is relevant to espresso machines with brass boilers.

It looks sentient. Did it suddenly start speaking and asked for Cafiza?

Shower screen, the thing that spreads water over the coffee bed in an espresso machine. It makes it so that the water wets the coffee roughly evenly instead of at a single spot. This helps with even extraction. The left is a diffusor the right is the shower screen. The diffusor has the same function but it does rough water distribution to six points in this case. The shower screen spreads it further.
