"how do we hold our fire when they’re advancing on us?” Putin told reporters.

By leaving. You leave. That's how you do it.

No, it won't be. You can have peace when you GTFO of Ukraine.

[–] knfrmity@lemmygrad.ml -3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Agreed. So why is the west sabotaging all possible peace deals?

[–] KrimsonBun@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Russia does not want unconditional surrender, which is the only option for peace.

The Minsk accords were a reasonable compromise, but the Americans never let the Ukrainians hold up their end of the bargain. There were then going to be peace talks between Zelenskyy and Putin personally in March 2022 but then the NATO capitalists jetted in Boris Johnson to talk Zelenskyy out of it.

Russia's entirely reasonable and very public requests have not changed since 2008 at least.

2008, when Russian forces invaded Georgia?

[–] knfrmity@lemmygrad.ml -3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

A short but crucial intervention to stop the killings of innocent civilians, as the US backed Georgian leader started killing South Ossetians and Abkazians in a severe escalation of the regional conflict. A conflict once again spurred on by the US.

There are a great many parallels to the post-Madan situation in Ukraine, parallels one should be careful to learn for they will be developed and exploited elsewhere before the US empire is vanquished.

Reads like Russian propaganda. Does anyone believe this?

The Russian Duma already voted for the annexation of the occupied territories. The article does not state what would be the legal status of the region. It says that many point of the proposal are secret, but I got the feeling that a non trivial point is glossed over.

It’s one step further even: They already voted for the annexation of territories that they did never occupy. It’s ludicrous. Russia doesn’t know it’s own exact border claims as these were never specified.

“Let me have my way in Africa and maybe I’ll stop being such a prick in Ukraine (I won’t be, though, lol).”
