Official Title of this Community: Ethnic Minorities and People of Color

Why is the title different?

We like to have fun here.

What is this place? A safe space for underrepresented peoples and peoples of color to talk, chill, and vibe.

What are the basic rules of the community?

  1. Follow Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines. Non negotiable. This is the bedrock and mods will make decisions with this always in mind.

  2. This community is for ethnic minorities and people of color. This is a safe space where such people can freely discuss their struggles, insight, and thoughts without fear. If you are not, we respectfully ask you do not post or comment here. A future community will be established to allow for racial discussions with a mixed userbase. However, remember, comments here must still respect Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines.

  3. Irony Racism is still racism. Racism is bad m'kay? We will treat irony racism and bad faith racist satire as racism. Will wield the ban hammer accordingly.

  4. No sectarianism: This is an identity channel not a channel for you all to complain about why XYZ isn't the "one true leftism". Take that to another place.

  5. Stupidpol is not allowed. Stupidpol is class reductionist. We are an identity community. Thinking like stupidpol ignores the struggles of the oppressed, their voices, and their need for unique support. Nothing says oppression more than someone saying that the identity you have is "not real" and that if you only thought like them you'd see what your "real" identity is. Mods reserve the right to ban users and content who promote stupidpol, stupidpol memes, and other class reductionist thinking.

FAQ

I don't look XYZ and/or sometimes I can pass as white so I don't know if I can post here. Can I?

What can I post?

Haven't posted here in a bit mostly thinking as soon as I post it'll get changed to a fresh one. Today's been nice, studying on my own and also spending time outside. The job search starts now that my training is over and I got what I hope are marketable skills. Got some big bills to look forward to catgirl-flop gotta help pull my family up and also deal with my own emotional baggage on the side.

I will always call myself a leftist, but I sense that I'll never truly be comfortable with such a descriptor. I'm tired of all the white, performative bullshit. Most "leftists" I interact with seem like people who believe in entirely different things than I do.

[–] Lussy@hexbear.net 6 points 5 hours ago

I don’t see how the majority of these people don’t end up becoming Cucker Tarlson riders. I truly don’t trust the post 2010 brand of leftism, sparked by the dirtbag left, which this site is a direct consequence of. The attempts of stripping identity politics or racial analysis (in THIS country) from the little leftist heritage this country has due to the efforts of brown people is a red flag.

This place is just as yankee chauvinist as I left it. Joke of a supposed "People of color" community.
You people will make all the excuses for a fascist soldier, but none for the victim.

Do you think you're the only victim of American imperialism here?

[–] durings@hexbear.net 14 points 2 days ago (1 children)

having a really hard time coping with loneliness and facing the facts that people would rather be friends with people who are agreeable, passive, and "easy to digest" at best, and literal SAers and fascists at worse, over me. they may even complain about these "friendships" to me and then continue to invest more time in them.

hard to trust peoples words at all anymore. i don't want to live like this. maybe it's actually a blessing that i have no attachments to this place community wise

It's something I know I've experienced my whole life. People are okay catering to bigots' feelings because they don't want to get confrontational. This just makes bigots feel like what they're saying is true, so they continue their shitty behavior. When someone does confront their behavior, it blows up because the bigot isn't used to hearing someone disagree. Now the person who called things out is the bad guy. Never the fuckwad who thinks "That's just locker room talk."

"It is not enough to be not racist in a racist society. One must be actively anti-racist."

kamala-coconut-tree : The Alligator Alcatraz of Donald Trump is shameful, we are going to build a bigger more lethal one and give it a good name, I picked Puppy Alcatraz.

How do you deal with how the western world view typically casts minorities as "exotic friendly little creatures" or "the devil. Literally demon beings."

Like, can you not see me as either please? Can you see me for me?

[–] Angel@hexbear.net 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

As someone who's been called an "Oreo" my whole damn life, I noticed that people are so quick to reduce Blackness down to a set of stereotypes, and if you don't align with these stereotypes in any way, they will see you as some "special" kind of person.

It's how cracKKKers act all the time when interacting with me.

I was out on a trip and had needed to go to the restroom. There was a line for the women's restroom (all of them were white) and one of them had their 3-4 year old son complaining about wanting to see his dad, who was in the restroom, in front of the men's restroom. I stood around for a second seeing if she would move her son out of the way and I started yawning. I didn't hear what the kid was saying, but from out of nowhere the mother say "Oh sorry, he said the n-word". And I'm like "huh". And she wasn't even speaking to me, instead the other women on line. I just turned back around because I had no idea what the fuck she was on about, but if your 3-4 year old is just dropping the n-word out of nowhere then I think you might have a problemanti-cracker-aktion

It hurts reading nerdy trans tech blogs and then getting gut punched with anticommunist brainworms. They'll whine about how "win-it-all capitalism" is bad and then in their next article use the Stalin-Yezhov photo as the "most famous example" of clean-up photo editing.

This is what I get for reading white people's writing kitty-birthday-sad

[–] Wmill@hexbear.net 14 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Been carrying around some of those red cards the ones that say to ICE "I do not consent to a search" etc. I really don't know how much it'll help but it gives me some ease also got some for my parents to have on hand. Seeing an article of how ICE agents are pretty much in it for treats doesn't not surprise me one bit amerikkka

[–] hello_hello@hexbear.net 13 points 5 days ago (1 children)

The treats aren't even that good, I remember reading about detention center guards who have to work 80+ hour weeks for no benefits.

It's just a terrible country where it's either that or you fall into a spiral of despair. Become a nazi to save yourself type country.

Death to Seppoland.

[–] Wmill@hexbear.net 11 points 4 days ago

yea this country sucks, I got some training in the hopes I find something but goddamn I keep getting offers on indeed for border patrol/secret service/fbi agent general pig fuckery not interested.

[–] Wmill@hexbear.net 13 points 5 days ago

It always feels odd when I talk to white people about racism since I usually feel a need to soothe things over or doubt my own perceptions around them. It's either no engagement or being dismissed and both kinda suck. I guess the latter sucks more when I mention something get dismissed and someone else says it and they agree. One example I remember saying was the racism in the yakuza series and my friends dismissing me for it being a crime game but when another white friend mentioned it they were like "you're on to something there." Sometimes I feel I'm kept around as amusement catgirl-flop and I'm too lonely to refuse.

[–] Angel@hexbear.net 15 points 5 days ago (1 children)

White queers not getting why I'd rather be in a room of 1,000 Black cishet people over a tiny circle of 5 white queers in and of itself proves my point.

[–] Wmill@hexbear.net 13 points 5 days ago

I feel this, do wish I had more queer poc friends tho

[–] vegeta1@hexbear.net 13 points 5 days ago

A lot of these blokes think pregnancy after SA is a blessing so of course they think colonialism and neocolonialism is a good thing.

[–] la_tasalana_intissari_mata@hexbear.net 13 points 5 days ago (1 children)

They poison the well, they call you if you die of thirst, and if you get sick from it

[–] durings@hexbear.net 10 points 5 days ago

and when you realize it's poisoned and that if you keep drinking it you'll only get sicker, you are ostracized for questioning the source, people feel insulted because they'd rather keep drinking the poisoned water because that's what they're used to doing and everyone else does it and now you're forced to find a clean well somewhere else instead of just banding together and cleaning out the well you already have.

well, after months of deliberation i finally bought a one way ticket to portugal and planning to slowly make my way from there to either asia or africa. still have a day to chicken out and refund but i mean i've been desperately searching for a reason to not just up and leave the country, the bar has been barely above the ground, and still haven't found even one reason so doubt anything will change in the next day.

i'm not necessarily looking forward to it, still trying to get past the "i wish things were different" mentality. just seems like the only thing left to do besides succumbing to hopelessness. i'm hoping the journey will alleviate my misanthropic thoughts and lead to finding my people, but i know it's best to not have any expectations. i'm also worried about what happens when i run out of the very little money i do have or potential prejudice especially in europe but fuck it i want to do less thinking and more action

the only thing i will miss is my computer. still thinking if i should even bring a laptop since i plan to mostly camp

Well good luck. Even the journey doesn't satisfy, in terms of finding your people, it'll alleviate you some what I suppose.

I'd wish you bring one.

I've been practicing this line I love a lot, and I can hear the improvement with each take.

The original song is "22 Faces" by Periphery. It's around 2:54 in the song.

tons of sheet noises because I, as usual, recorded this on my bed when I was shaking a lot and unable to sleep 😅

[–] LoveYourself@hexbear.net 9 points 6 days ago (3 children)

Whenever I see something on the internet like "down with cis people" or something of the sort, I think about this tweet and I think about how many transgender settler child-killing nazis are in the iof.

And I think about how western theories & discourses of social justice have been revealed as completely inadequate in the age of al Aqsa Flood.

[–] hello_hello@hexbear.net 5 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

Written in English too.

White people love anarchism but hate communism for the same reasons why they love peaceful protests and hate armed resistance...

They love the lack of consequences and pretending to be heroic.

Western Academia/NGO/Social Justice Pipeline: replacing analysis of colonialism and post/neo-colonial class dynamics with identity politics and calling it radical.

(No I'm not against trans people...)

Settler feminism, settler trans rights, settler worker rights... All settlers before anything else

~~Well, tbh, I first thought this grafitti could go either way, from Falastini or Israeli. I don't see any signs of it being Israeli.~~

But ok, the main antagonism is Israeli settler-colonialism.

[–] LoveYourself@hexbear.net 8 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I don't see any signs of it being Israeli.

Haifa was ethnically cleansed by the zionists and the remaining Palestinian Arabs live in segregated areas, banned from displaying Palestinian flag.

If the grafitti was made by a Palestinian then that's actually even more depressing tbh but I think its very unlikely.

[–] Lemmygradwontallowme@hexbear.net 8 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Oh shit... ok, now that I actually took a second look at the context, this is some settler sickness shit

[–] LoveYourself@hexbear.net 8 points 6 days ago (4 children)

I added the highlighted bit for the context and combined it into one image so I dont have to go searching for both in my camera roll 😅
