Welcome to c/news! We aim to foster a book-club type environment for discussion and critical analysis of the news. Our policy objectives are:

We ask community members to appreciate the uncertainty inherent in critical analysis of current events, the need to constantly learn, and take part in the community with humility. None of us are the One True Leftist, not even you, the reader.

Newcomm and Newsmega Rules:

The Hexbear Code of Conduct and Terms of Service apply here.

  1. Link titles: Please use informative link titles. Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.

  2. Content warnings: Posts on the newscomm and top-level replies on the newsmega should use content warnings appropriately. Please be thoughtful about wording and triggers when describing awful things in post titles.

  3. Fake news: No fake news posts ever, including April 1st. Deliberate fake news posting is a bannable offense. If you mistakenly post fake news the mod team may ask you to delete/modify the post or we may delete it ourselves.

  4. Link sources: All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include the Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance) or at least strip out identifier information from the twitter link. There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source.

  5. Archive sites: We highly encourage use of non-paywalled archive sites (i.e. archive.is, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org) so that links are widely accessible to the community and so that reactionary sources don’t derive data/ad revenue from Hexbear users. If you see a link without an archive link, please archive it yourself and add it to the thread, ask the OP to fix it, or report to mods. Including text of articles in threads is welcome.

  6. Low effort material: Avoid memes/jokes/shitposts in newscomm posts and top-level replies to the newsmega. This kind of content is OK in post replies and in newsmega sub-threads. We encourage the community to balance their contribution of low effort material with effort posts, links to real news/analysis, and meaningful engagement with material posted in the community.

  7. American politics: Discussion and effort posts on the (potential) material impacts of American electoral politics is welcome, but the never-ending circus of American Politics© Brought to You by Mountain Dew™ is not welcome. This refers to polling, pundit reactions, electoral horse races, rumors of who might run, etc.

  8. Electoralism: Please try to avoid struggle sessions about the value of voting/taking part in the electoral system in the West. c/electoralism is right over there.

  9. AI Slop: Don't post AI generated content. Posts about AI race/chip wars/data centers are fine.

Patel and Bongino have since said Epstein committed suicide. But it has become an article of faith online, especially on the right, that Epstein's crimes also implicated government officials, celebrities and business leaders — and that someone killed him to conceal them.

Oh fuck right off.

I can tell I scared my friends real bad one time when I casually mentioned this stuff because they think this is all chud conspiracy theories and they thought I had become a "bad" guy

I 100% believe that pizzagate/QAnon was a psyop to make the public forever associate all discussion of wealthy pedophile rings with whacked-out conspiracy theories. now talking about objectively true, well-documented facts makes you sound crazy to the average low-information liberal

[–] Ram_The_Manparts@hexbear.net 19 points 6 months ago

That's my take on it as well, it's just all too convenient

[–] Lavender@hexbear.net 24 points 6 months ago

Is so frustrating that the collective lib memory will ignore these things and vilify you for remembering.

the right wing literally worships Epstein's former best friend, the government official, celebrity, and business leader Donald J. Trump, as a god

it's objectively a fact that Epstein was connected to wealthy, powerful, famous people. the FBI itself has come out and said this - before it was taken over by one of those people. by suggesting that discussing this fact is akin to right-wing conspiracies like QAnon, axios is literally covering for pedophiles. is their CEO in the black book too?

[–] Lavender@hexbear.net 25 points 6 months ago

All I'm saying is that predators are benefiting from labeling this narrative as a right-wing conspiracy like QAnon.

Believing Epstein didn't kill himself is hardly a partisan issue and it's skeevy as fuck to claim otherwise.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if the FBI had Epstein on their bankroll so they could blackmail people into becoming informants. The problem law enforcement runs into is eventually they have to cut their informants loose and informants have to be paid. Don't have to do that if you have guaranteed life in prison to hang over someone's head. Now you can use them for as long as you want.

I've also heard CIA, although I personally think Mossad.

Does this look like the face of a man who is hiding something?

[–] LocalOaf@hexbear.net 43 points 6 months ago

When your boss definitely isn't on a list that definitely doesn't exist

[–] FourteenEyes@hexbear.net 55 points 6 months ago

100% got him on video, multiple angles, multiple sessions, multiple victims

Oh alright then, I wasn't sure before but I guess it's all settled now.

Can they even do proper psyops anymore? It would be so much more effective to come to this conclusion as a somewhat high profile, somewhat respectable group unassosciated with (but with free access of information to) federal agencies. Just make the CIA cutout, hype up the investigation, do some performative and maybe even highly publicized chaffing with the government and then release your totally legit findings.

E: you could even put Chomsky on the team, he's already openly defended his association with Epstein and most uninformed "lefties" still take what he says to heart.

Unless the psyop is freely flaunting the level of control they have to put a cap on the consequences of conspiracies like this, even if the public is aware.

We've investigated ourselves and found that it only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades

This just makes the Trump admin look even more guilty overing for Pissreal and Epstien.

He doesn't talk about hillary-contempt or billdawg any more either. So much for locking them up. JFK stuff comes out with a bunch of Pissreal mentions but a-little-trolling make your own conclusions.

Most powerful governemnt and military in the world scared to death over a tiny foriegn Voldemort country and will incriminate their own public for speaking against.

I couldn't watch the '"enhanced" version' because of an SSL error at the URL.

So I tried going to the hosting domain, media.justice.gov to see what's up there.

At first it also didn't work either. But now it loads a blank page titled "Adobe Flash Media Server".

Wow that sounds old. According to https://helpx.adobe.com/security/products/flash-media-server.html it last received a security update in 2011.

The html source of the page has a copyright notice from 2008 and what looks like maybe some boilerplate code suggesting you download Flash Player and links to sample SWF and f4v files. Naturally DOJ is retro computing.

According to the most recent wayback cache it should be a 301 redirect to a different URL under the domain which is a more regular looking webpage. (Epstein videos are not available on this (non-wayback) video news page. See how "Exclusive" the axios story is.)

Finally the '"enhanced" version' started to load in my browser but sadly crapped out on me without hardly playing anything at all. I guess they shouldn't have fired all their staff who run things before releasing an 11 hour video on their shitty Adobe Flash Server.

we've looked into it and we found we did nothing wrong or suspicious

Ghislaine Maxwell is still in prison for no particular reason, then, I suppose.

[–] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 11 points 6 months ago
