We should replace our politicians with leftists who stand on a manifesto of standing up to Donald Trump.

I'd vote for that.

Too many are already forgetting what just happened (and keeps happening) a few months ago. A system that allows for a petulant toddler on top of the free world is a system that could allow for a whole succession of petulant toddlers if given the chance.

Trump didn't do it alone. He couldn't have done it without all his allies, and without all the other checks and balances surrendering their power to let him have his way. Take Trump out of the equation, and you still have the other 99% of the rot to clean up.

If Europe doesn't learn from this, it fully deserves what's bound to eventually come its way. Fool me once...

Translation (by Deepl)

When Big Tech sets its own rules, Europe has failed Brussels is apparently prepared to make far-reaching concessions to Trump. This means the idea of digital sovereignty and Europeโ€™s digital decade is over ๏ฟผ

Donald Trump wants simpler rules for US companies - and is returning the favour for generous campaign donations. Brussels threatens to buckle.

The big digital companies should have a say in which rules apply to them in future, at least that is what is currently being discussed behind closed doors. Itโ€™s like letting the tobacco companies run a lung clinic. Or putting the oil lobby in charge of protecting coastal waters. In Brussels, the dog should watch the sausage. Even the EU Commissionโ€™s first ideas for appeasing Trumpโ€™s anger were hair-raising. After all, the Digital Markets Act (DMA), the centrepiece of Europeโ€™s digital decade and part of a whole series of sister regulations, could be softened if Washington so wished.

Translated, non-paywall link? Tried Firefox mobile translate + reader mode but only the title is translated, not the contents.

Agree. Why a post linked to a German article is flagged as English... I have been clickbaited only to be unable to know what it says... Not cool!
