I haven't get my #viss, but since last year I was thinking about it. With these news and for what you see from the #USA, there is no way that I'll throw myself into that humilliation

[–] Handmaid@lemmy.zip 15 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

People want to immigrate to the USA still? Bizarre.

[–] childOfMagenta@jlai.lu 2 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

You can need a visa for tourism.

People want to travel to the USA still? Bizarre.

[–] ChaoticEntropy@feddit.uk 12 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Ideologically unaligned visitors need not apply. Got to keep America pure, without the pesky freedom of subversive thought.

[–] pinball_wizard@lemmy.zip 3 points 7 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago) (1 children)

It's a chance for ~~everyone~~ visitors to practice right think.

While looking for a link, I found links that make me think some folks are trying to unironically reclaim the term "right think". Gross.

Too many people aren't reading 1984 anymore, while billionaires thought it was a "how to" guide.

[–] ChaoticEntropy@feddit.uk 3 points 6 hours ago

Just don't wait to ask Grok what it thinks "Right Think" is, as Musk plans for it to rewrite human knowledge and understanding with a new lens. :')

[–] ABetterTomorrow@lemm.ee 14 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Good thing I delete that crap 10+ years ago. Enjoy the shitty data and memes!

[–] pinball_wizard@lemmy.zip 1 points 6 hours ago

Same, but it worries me that now I look like I'm hiding something.

I guess technically I am hiding something: It's disdain. Disdain for shitty social media is what I'm hiding.

[–] ghosthacked@lemmy.wtf 24 points 12 hours ago (2 children)

This is kind of stupid. I don't even remember social media tags I've used. Who would want to go through this shit to get into redneckville?

[–] elucubra@sopuli.xyz 1 points 6 hours ago

This was explained to me years ago. They don't give a fuck about what you said. They want you to lie, in case they need to fuck you up. If for some reason they want to screw you, they'll look for these uids, and if you hadn't declared, they'll slap perjury charges on you.

[–] JacksonLamb@lemmy.world 5 points 10 hours ago

Exactly, they are talking about dozens of names. Who on earth would remember that, let alone want to share it.

[–] D_C@lemm.ee 16 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago) (1 children)

I legitimately do not, and have never had, any of the usual social media. This lemm.ee account is the only one I have, and that's closing down soon.

However I would also never visit the us. So it's all a win/win for me.

[–] Don_alForno@feddit.org 17 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

I legitimately do not, and have never had, any of the usual social media.

"Well that can't be right. Highly suspicious. What do you have to hide?"

[–] D_C@lemm.ee 8 points 12 hours ago

"What do you have to hide?"

Grizzly murders. Loads of them!!

...
...

J/k. It's my privacy. All those horrific murders were really easy to get away with, keeping my privacy private however...

[–] menemen@lemmy.ml 18 points 14 hours ago

Lol, now even the dumbest asshole should understand that they should cancle their US vacation...

[–] control@startrek.website 16 points 14 hours ago

Well, that’s one more reason to never come to the USA again

[–] Allemaniac@lemmy.world 8 points 13 hours ago (2 children)

welcome to Autocracy ladies and gentlemen, sit back, grab some popcorn and pay attention to your neighbours, some might start dissappearing soon

[–] Rawdogg@lemm.ee 4 points 12 hours ago

dont threaten americans with what they want and voted for.

[–] Allemaniac@lemmy.world 2 points 13 hours ago

football selling out to Qatar who use slave labour and stone gay people to death, now US who hate foreigners and will detain you at random, and being in 2034 in Saudi Arabia, who also hate human rights is just the icing on the cake. I wanted to fly to the US for the world cup, but fuck that, fuck Trump and his cronies across the globe

[–] daggermoon@lemmy.world 17 points 17 hours ago (3 children)

What if you don't have social media accounts?

[–] barneypiccolo@lemm.ee 2 points 7 hours ago

That's even worse.

[–] ReginaPhalange@lemmy.world 20 points 17 hours ago (1 children)
[–] creisel@lemmy.zip 1 points 9 hours ago

Right away, jail!

[–] DrunkAnRoot@sh.itjust.works 4 points 12 hours ago

"quite suspicous what do you have to hide?" and then they smack you with batons arrest you and put you in jail with gang members muders and every evil and vile person

[–] BoycottPro@lemm.ee 18 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

This is stupid. This will not stop spies and terrorists, they will just create fake accounts. This will only hurt legitimate immigrants.

[–] FireIced@lemmy.super.ynh.fr 4 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

This is for non immigrant visas it says

[–] BoycottPro@lemm.ee 9 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

What I said can be applied to any type of visa. The policy is not going to fix anything, it's only going to invade peoples privacy and turn away legitimate visa applicants.

[–] FireIced@lemmy.super.ynh.fr 4 points 18 hours ago

USA being USA

Btw don’t forget to switch instance

[–] Grandwolf319@sh.itjust.works 35 points 23 hours ago (2 children)

Seriously, what’s the advantage of having social media? Just seems like a liability with every account.

[–] BlameTheAntifa@lemmy.world 25 points 23 hours ago (3 children)

If you don’t have social media you must be “hiding” something and will be denied entry.

Make a fake one that posts like... idk post random tech stuff that you could be reasonably interested in. Make nothing critical of authority. As a decoy profile.

Then you can rant about big brother on an anonymous Lemmy Account over TOR.

[–] Rawdogg@lemm.ee 3 points 12 hours ago

and then they check their palantir database and see your lying and throw you in a south american gulag

[–] WoodScientist@sh.itjust.works 4 points 18 hours ago

Finally a killer app for AI. Create social media profiles and use AI agents to populate them with bland uncontroversial drivel.

Sure why not, since my name is Anthony O'Neill. You can find my short form username: Anon.

What could they find? I bet I'm save.

My US visa officer: what do you mean you did not have 'social' media accounts in 5 years? No, these weird sites don't count. Underground terrorist? Straight to gulag.

[–] Grumpyleb@lemmus.org 159 points 1 day ago (18 children)

America is such a fucking joke it's no longer funny. I wish we could isolate the rest of the world from your madness but unfortunately we can't.

"I don't use social media"

[–] pulsewidth@lemmy.world 2 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Lying on an official document? Straight to jail.

Didn't actually have any accounts? Believe it or not, straight to jail.

[–] ter_maxima@jlai.lu 1 points 10 hours ago

It doesn't matter anyway, there is no rule of law in the united states. You might as well lie, they will likely jail you no matter what you write on that document.

Just don't go there.
