Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Remember that diversity and coexistence are Star Trek values. Any post/comments that are racist, anti-LGBT, or generally "othering" of a group will result in removal/ban.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

~ 3. Use spoiler tags. This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.

~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.

~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.

~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon'

~ 8. No Political Upheaval. Political commentary is allowed, but please keep discussions civil. Read here for our community's expectations.

Fun will now commence.

DS9 s2e26 The Jem'Hadar

The cop-out explanation from Memory Alpha:

Only one Vorta was demonstrated using telekinesis: Eris. As the DS9 writing staff put more thought into the Vorta following their initial appearance in "The Jem'Hadar", telekinesis was discarded and deemed a misstep that the writing team hoped viewers would forget. (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Companion, p. 155) Ronald D. Moore stated, "Our internal rationale has been that Eris was given this ability for a specific purpose by the Founders (and maybe several other Vorta along with her) and that it is not a normal part of the Vorta 'recipe' in the Dominion." (AOL chat, 1998) However, on an earlier occasion, Moore stated that other Vorta "presumably" had the ability, but no situations in which it would manifest had come up. (AOL chat, 1998)

I love that the source is an AOL chat from 1998

Tbh, I like the explanation that they genetically engineered it into that 'design' of Vorta, but not others.

We know the Founders are seen as gods to the Jem Hadar (not just to Vorta), and yet the Founders still chose to make them reliant on ketracel white, just in case they overcame that 'programming' and rebelled.

Seems completely logical that they'd also limit the Vorta's abilities in order to more easily curtail any future uprising too. Giving them all the ability to fire energy blasts could be something the Founders regretted later on.

It's also true that the Federation's first meeting with the Vorta was all orchestrated. It's possible the energy blast is something they purposely show off during first contact to other powers, to act as a show of force to them.

As for plot lines that went nowhere in DS9, does anybody remember that there was initially a rift between Jem Hadar created in the Gamma Quadrant and those created in the Alpha Quadrant? It was shown in that episode where the defiant shrunk, but then was never mentioned again. They were clearly gearing up for a civil war plotline, but it never came to be.

I love it, there’s always a plausible in-universe explanation for anything if a trekkie thinks hard enough.

Only Romulans from the Northern Province have strong V-shaped brow-ridges.

Only Klingons from the Northern Province have a claw coming out of the top of their feet.

Only Trill symbionts from the Northern Province can blend with humans and take over their body entirely.

Only Trill humanoids from the Northern Province have strong V-shaped brow-ridges and no spots.

Only Cardassians from the Northern Province grow moustaches.

Only Vorta from the Northern Province can do the energy-ball thing.

Only telekinetic Vorta come from the Gamma Quadrant, otherwise they're just sparkling Vorta.

“TASTE THE RAINBOW, CAPTAIN SISKO!”

I just figured it was disinformation.

The Vorta were all genetically engineered anyway, and it would be make sense to customize them for the job they were assigned. I assume that Vorta agents had that power but commanders and politicians didnt. The Founders did go out of their way to ensure all their servants were excellent and their job, but terrible at everything else.

Weyoun saying that his eyes were not so good was probably an intentional decision by the Founders for his position. He didn’t need to see that well, but he did need to strategize (and hear things).
