Technically internal US news, but as it's really of interest to non-US citizens, leaving it up.

[–] Empricorn@feddit.nl 50 points 1 week ago

Thank you. By definition, immigration has to involve multiple countries, IMO...

[–] Fredselfish@lemmy.world 37 points 1 week ago (1 children)

He will do this today, and deport them later.

[–] FlexibleToast@lemmy.world 26 points 1 week ago

Rinse and repeat for infinite profit.

[–] Mouette@jlai.lu 9 points 1 week ago

Yeah really interressing, I was definitively looking for a way to pay 5M to immigrate to the big clown show that is US lmao

Capitalism!

[–] chemical_cutthroat@lemmy.world 23 points 1 week ago (3 children)

I'll do mine for 2.7 and a cat deposit.

[–] KingJalopy@lemm.ee 12 points 1 week ago

2.6 and I'll throw in my cat* for free

*Cat may be idiot with only 4 lives left

[–] neukenindekeuken@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

As in, they have to give you a cat, or you give them a cat?

They pay the cat deposit on my new place, where ever that may be. I'll take a cat as well, though.

I'll do a swap for free for, if I'm being honest with myself, any country that you can buy a bidet in.

[–] prex@aussie.zone 8 points 1 week ago

Don't swap for free. You should have an auction - the highest bidet wins.

As a non-American I don't think I'd buy US residency even for five dollars. But do come cross the Atlantic!

No, sorry. It’s a bribe.

[–] Thedogdrinkscoffee@lemmy.ca 77 points 1 week ago (6 children)

Who has $5m and wants to live in a nascent autocracy? What a shithole country.

We're gonna get flooded with UAE princes or whatever. We'll be having those poop parties that the streamers who go over there get caught up in.

[–] sittinonatoilet@sopuli.xyz 6 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

Please explain the poop party because that sounds hilarious

Edit: I’m sorry I asked. Humans are garbage

[–] 467265654C75696769@sh.itjust.works 21 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

It has been alleged that certain faves in the streaming and beauty bits of the internet, go on pilgrimages to the gulf states in the middle east to have certain individuals with more money than hair follicles shit into their bucal cavities, in exchange for shiny bits of metal and agitated electrons that grants them financial umbrage enough for them to show off to their fawning acolytes and disciples on the internet and return again for more bucal decorations.

[–] catloaf@lemm.ee 20 points 1 week ago

It's not.

Saudi princes and other people with too much money take advantage of young women by inviting them for modeling gigs, then abuse them with literal torture.

[–] ReanuKeeves@lemm.ee 9 points 1 week ago

People who love oppression and hoarding wealth but hate equality and facing consequences for their crimes

There have been other instances of bribery by/of government "officials" during my 70yrs...

But never has the bribery been so openly blatantly in-your-face fuck-you-can't-do-anything-about-it as is being done by this miserable stunted stupid sorry attempt at a human.

Words alone simply fail to convey my hatred and disgust of these fuckers. Nor of my sorrow and disdain for the depths to which the US had plunged.

🤦‍♀️ 🤡 🖕 💩

[–] jonne@infosec.pub 25 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Golden visas aren't really that extraordinary, many countries have something similar. It's just a slap in the face to everyone else that has to jump through an increasing amount of hoops just to get a green card to see that you can just skip the line if you're wealthy enough (which has really always been the case on some level, but not that blatant).

[–] Zenith@lemm.ee 5 points 1 week ago

Lots of “dream countries” do this and also have very strict immigration policy and strict assimilation rules

[–] MimicJar@lemmy.world 37 points 1 week ago (3 children)

My favorite part,

Trump administration officials have suggested that the card will replace the EB-5 immigrant investor visa programme, which grants permanent residency to immigrants who invest at least $1.05m in the US, or $800,000 in designated economically distressed areas.

So since the 90s anyone with $1 million has been able to buy/invest their way in.

This "new gold card" costs $5 million.

So it costs five times as much, it's just a bribe and not an investment. I'm guessing putting together a business plan costs less than $4 million.

So the obvious question becomes... What type of person is willing to spend $5 million, but not $1 million. (And I'm guessing less oversight.)

The USA was already not a serious country but this is so pathetic that it wouldn't make it into a movie script for being too far-fetched.

[–] rc__buggy@sh.itjust.works 21 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Like the article says, it's probably just a replacement for EB-5 visas, which many countries have.

Fuckin' inflation on that bitch though, went from just over a mil in investment to a straight up $5m fee. Where does the fee go? No one knooooowwwwwwsssssss

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 11 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Someone said in another thread that you don't have to invest anymore, just park your money somewhere. I bet trump coins are included in the list of parking destinations.

[–] rc__buggy@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

"somewhere"?

Shit, even the banana republics make you put it in one of their banks.

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

The dude that spoke to me, I think was wrong. Here is what USA Today says (I know):

President Donald Trump's long-touted "gold card," which offers foreigners a path to U.S. citizenship after paying $5 million to the government, is open for business.

But even if you have the money, there's a waitlist at trumpcard.gov. And read the fine print carefully: Your $5 million doesn't buy you immediate citizenship.

Trump has said that he is not seeking approval from Congress as he is not providing gold card buyers with citizenship - only a path to citizenship. The path to citizenship requirements for card buyers are unclear and White House officials have said more details will be provided soon.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2025/06/11/trump-gold-card-open-business-waitlist/84158260007/

[–] rc__buggy@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Yeah, I bet it's going to be a fee. A "tariff" on getting your ass in the country. At least with the investment scheme you have skin in the game, you'd like to see that 1m grow into 2m. If you just pay 5m and then fuckoff you don't get anything back but a green card (?). Of course, green cards aren't worth the paper they are printed on anymore.

Any non-US citizen who has this much discretionary money to spend on Trump's dumbass card, already has the resources and network to become a US citizen already if they want

$5mil and you get to be there for the start of a civil war. Bargain!

[–] Xerxos@lemmy.ml 6 points 1 week ago

I hope everyone always calls ICE on them, whenever someone notices these rich immigrants.

Even if they don't take them into custody, wasting both their time would be a good start.

[–] selkiesidhe@lemm.ee 6 points 1 week ago

This way terrorists can by bypass all the rules etc and get citizenship. Just bribe the Moron-in-chief. Brilliant!

And the grift continues.

That's all America is now. One big grift. Everyone trying to grift each other for scraps while the prolific grifters grift us all.

[–] mazzilius_marsti@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

oh the yuge biggie gold card

[–] Laser@feddit.org 5 points 1 week ago

It is the best card. A lot of people are saying it. Tremendous. Not like the weak Biden card.

[–] P00ptart@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

But what if they're brown?

[–] rigatti@lemmy.world 12 points 1 week ago

They'll just get deported later. Great deal for the US.
