Donald Trump has said it may be better to let Ukraine and Russia “fight for a while” rather than pursue peace immediately, as the German chancellor, Friedrich Merz, urged him to increase pressure on Russia.

During the Oval Office meeting, Trump voiced doubts about the potential success of peace talks, saying “sometimes you’re better off letting them fight for a while and then pulling them apart”.

The US president said he had told Vladimir Putin that the two countries were like “two young children fighting like crazy in a park” when the two spoke by phone on Wednesday.

Whatever happened to 24 hrs even before he's ~~ejected~~ elected (lol typo)...

[–] DaddleDew@lemmy.world 32 points 2 days ago (1 children)

That entirely revolved around Trump's statement that came with it: "Putin respects me".

Putin doesn't respect Trump and never did. He only sees him as a useful idiot. Most of us already knew this a long time ago but somehow Trump and his supporters keep themselves in denial about it despite the overwhelming evidence.

They prefer alternative evidence of things

So long as someone is still buying our guns and bombs, why not let the wheels of social annihilation continue to spin.

When the dust settles, the US can step in and claim whatever is left.

I'm confused, I thought he ended it?

[–] el_bhm@lemm.ee 29 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (3 children)

No, he did. Just that Zelensky does not want it to end. Putin does want it to end it. But Trump ended it. Amazingly. And for sure. 100%. Like the golf ball that... that hits a plane and. You never know. It is uneblievable that it had happened. Biden became a robot.

Just letting you know, I appreciate the subtle ways this comment combines Trump's characteristic dementia-addled "weave," and our utter and complete exhaustion from it. You've made one art.

I heard that Zelensky tried to punch Trump in the face when Trump just wanted peace, and Zelensky said "NO ONLY WAR". Then everybody clapped and Fred Trump told him he was proud of him.

For a second there, I missed the sarcasm.

Wait, you mean to tell me that the guy that was supposed to end the genocide in Palestine not only didn’t do jack shit to end the genocide in Palestine, but is helping Russia perpetuate it in Ukraine?

Boy I sure am glad we didn’t end up with Harris! This could have been horrible!

[–] Glytch@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

Wow, he's really upset about Ukraine not telling him about that massive drone attack because he's a security risk.

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago
