Because every bike is a car off the road. Every car off the road is a car out of your way.

Or a mitigation against the climate apocalypse, take your pick.

Also because cars create a huge number of negative externalities that impose additional costs on society as a whole. Pollution, climate damage, accidents, wear and tear on roads and other infrastructure, increased public transit costs because transit has to contend with traffic, etc. As someone who does drive, I absolutely should be made to pay for those costs.

sounds good for me. tax cars for all costs of roads and disposal and tax gas for all pollution caused by gas and disposal (lets treat disposal as all extrenalities).

Singapore has one of the best transit systems in the world, and owning a car is so expensive that it's more of a status symbol than anything.
