Comic Strips is a community for those who love comic stories.

Rules
  1. πŸ˜‡ Be Nice!

    • Treat others with respect and dignity. Friendly banter is okay, as long as it is mutual; keyword: friendly.
  2. 🏘️ Community Standards

    • Comics should be a full story, from start to finish, in one post.
    • Posts should be safe and enjoyable by the majority of community members, both here on lemmy.world and other instances.
    • Any comic that would qualify as raunchy, lewd, or otherwise draw unwanted attention by nosy coworkers, spouses, or family members should be tagged as NSFW.
    • Moderators have final say on what and what does not qualify as appropriate. Use common sense, and if need be, err on the side of caution.
  3. 🧬 Keep it Real

    • Comics should be made and posted by real human beans, not by automated means like bots or AI. This is not the community for that sort of thing.
  4. πŸ“½οΈ Credit Where Credit is Due

    • Comics should include the original attribution to the artist(s) involved, and be unmodified. Bonus points if you include a link back to their website. When in doubt, use a reverse image search to try to find the original version. Repeat offenders will have their posts removed, be temporarily banned from posting, or if all else fails, be permanently banned from posting.
    • Attributions include, but are not limited to, watermarks, links, or other text or imagery that artists add to their comics to use for identification purposes. If you find a comic without any such markings, it would be a good idea to see if you can find an original version. If one cannot be found, say so and ask the community for help!
  5. πŸ“‹ Post Formatting

    • Post an image, gallery, or link to a specific comic hosted on another site; e.g., the author's website.
    • Meta posts about the community should be tagged with [Meta] either at the beginning or the end of the post title.
    • When linking to a comic hosted on another site, ensure the link is to the comic itself and not just to the website; e.g.,
      βœ… Correct: https://xkcd.com/386/
      ❌ Incorrect: https://xkcd.com/
  6. πŸ“¬ Post Frequency/SPAM

    • Each user (regardless of instance) may post up to five (5 πŸ–) comics a day. This can be any combination of personal comics you have written yourself, or other author's comics. Any comics exceeding five (5 πŸ–) will be removed.
  7. πŸ΄β€β˜ οΈ Internationalization (i18n)

    • Non-English posts are welcome. Please tag the post title with the original language, and include an English translation in the body of the post; e.g.,
      SΓ, por favor [Spanish/EspaΓ±ol]
  8. 🍿 Moderation

    • We are human, just like most everybody else on Lemmy. If you feel a moderation decision was made in error, you are welcome to reach out to anybody on the moderation team for clarification. Keep in mind that moderation decisions may be final.
    • When reporting posts and/or comments, quote which rule is being broken, and why you feel it broke the rules.
Web Accessibility

Note: This is not a rule, but a helpful suggestion.

When posting images, you should strive to add alt-text for screen readers to use to describe the image you're posting:

Another helpful thing to do is to provide a transcription of the text in your images, as well as brief descriptions of what's going on. (example)

Dumb ways to die...

[–] pennomi@lemmy.world 6 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Contrary to what you might have been told, the singular for dice can be either β€œdie” or β€œdice”.

[–] Rampsquatch@sh.itjust.works 14 points 11 months ago (2 children)

That's only because that's how people use the term. It didn't start that way. Isn't language neat?

"Literally" no longer means just "literally", but also "figuratively". Otherwise known as the opposite of the original definition.

[–] Semjaza@lemmynsfw.com 5 points 11 months ago

Originally, "literally" was never a word but through thousands of years of evolution and adaption it came into being, miraculously, as the "literally" we all knew and loved between the time of our birth and 2006.

When "literally" quite literally evolved a new meaning in the 1800s used for emphasis to replace the empty definition slot left by the dropping of the the 15th century meaning of "in regards of letters or writing", many of Literally's fans jumped ship.

These days Literally wanders from town to town, playing gig off of the commonly used meaning with the salt of the earth types, while from the ivory towers comes but spit and scorn.

But you can help, for as little as 2.50β‚© a month you can help finance Literally's return tour as being used to mean "with or regards to letters or words" and help elevate this star from hard times of having to rely on the plebians for usage. After all, is not a frequency band of 5, but exclusive use by academics not more worthy than band 6 used by all? If you agree, your views, snobbery, and financing can make all the difference.
Help a word stick to it's archaic meanings today. Because if the world isn't like it was when you were 15, is it really worth living in?

Using β€œdice” as a singular noun dates back the 1400s. I think it’s been in circulation long enough to be commonly accepted by now.

[–] Rampsquatch@sh.itjust.works 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

And if I say "die" in regards to a single object and "dice" for plural, you and everyone else still understands what I'm talking about. Isn't language neat?

[–] pennomi@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Yeah? That’s what I said above - either can correctly be used. Not sure what point you’re trying to make here.

[–] Rampsquatch@sh.itjust.works 2 points 11 months ago

That language is neat. I wasn't trying to be argumentative, sorry if it came off that way.

[–] palordrolap@fedia.io 4 points 11 months ago

Don't be so sure. What number is on the side to the right of the 5? Where did the border come from?

Mario's sorcery knows no bounds.

The day will never come, but I really hope some day they make a Mario Party spin off movie where Mario pulls a SAW kind of plot and ruins everybody's childhood like that weird Winnie the Pooh horror flick that recently came out.

[–] dharmacurious@slrpnk.net 31 points 11 months ago

If Mario ever drops into the public domain, you could make a fortune on this.

Write the movie now and wait. The day it hits public domain you'll be ready.

[–] kuoushi@lemmy.ca 12 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Not 100% the same thing, but There Will Be Brawl was fun. Kirby was a Hannibal Lecter killer in that show.

[–] Notyou@sopuli.xyz 2 points 11 months ago

This was a great series. So much nostalgia.

[–] markovs_gun@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago

Good news you only have to wait until 2080 when Mario enters the public domain, assuming copyright doesn't get extended again by then

Watched a strange rendition of Peter Pan recently where Peter was a child abductor and Tinkerbell was a child he had abducted years ago and has been shooting up with heroine or pcp for years calling it pixie dust. Not sure id recommend it, but if that exists... You might get your wish of Mario Party haha

Thats why I only go club parties hosted by Sonic. Because there ain't no party like an S-Club party

[–] Hideakikarate@sh.itjust.works 5 points 11 months ago

Hey, I liked Sonic Shuffle. It never put a hole in my hand, unlike another party game put on by an Italian plumber.

How dare you remind me that S Club 7 exists. D:

Today I learned this was made by the actual creator of Hellsing

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 4 points 11 months ago

I saw the pose and knew damned well what this was. Also know I'm wondering if the creator of Hellsing is aware of the abridged version.

[–] blackluster117@sh.itjust.works 6 points 11 months ago

There can be only one!
