I wouldn't have questioned it without seeing your comment, but now I'm doubtful. I can't make out what's on any of their shirts. They look garbled like an AI image, but it could also just be really old. Hard to tell.

i don't want to rob you of all the rewarding research, but you could probably start by finding out how old they were when they started the band.
They look like 12 in this.

Let’s see… Band formed in 1981, they were 18. But this photo would've been a little bit later bc it’s got Cliff Burton and Kirk Hammett. Mustaine got replaced by Kirk in ‘83, and Cliff dies in ‘86. So they would’ve been somewhere between 20-23 years old in this pic.
that's insane. they look so young, and usually people from pictures back then look older than they actually are. i'd have guessed they were all about 16 in this image.
