It sure would've been nice if any of those managers and engineers thought of that before creating this situation. If my decisions led to the company nearly losing one of its biggest products, I'd be fired on the spot. I wonder which Googlers got promoted for getting us here.
"This is a threat", adds Google.
Then fucking suffer
You'll... what? Enshittify it, make it more bloated, slower, steal more of our privacy, consume more resources, be more corporate, with AI features you can't opt-out of, design it to not work with the best ad-blocker on the planet (uBlock Origin), etc? What a world that would be...
Monopolists always say that and it's never true. AT&T said that but instead after they were broken up we got cheaper long distance and a better array of features.
Remember when their motto was "don't be evil"? Welp
What a wild ride we have been on since then. Their new motto should be "Fuck you, I'm going to go through your filing cabinet and there is nothing you can do to stop me"
Users will survive, as will Chrome. Google needs to be split.
Google means Google will suffer if it's forced to sell the world's most popular web browser.
That's not your decision or responsibility, Alphabet.
