Ghost in the Shell '26: Still Shellin'
Cyberpunk
What is Cyberpunk?
Cyberpunk is a science-fiction sub-genre dealing with the integration of society and technology in dystopian settings. Often referred to as “low-life and high tech,” Cyberpunk stories deal with outsiders (punks) who fight against the oppressors in society (usually mega corporations that control everything) via technological means (cyber). If the punks aren’t actively fighting against a megacorp, they’re still dealing with living in a world completely dependent on high technology.
Cyberpunk characteristics include:
- Dystopian city setting where mega-corporations rule
- Full integration of technology into society, featuring cybernetic implants
- Outsider protagonists (punks) who often are very familiar with the technology around them
- Hard boiled detective and film noir vibes and influence
- Themes dabbling in trans-humanism, existentialism, and what it means to be human.

Well I've gotta say I'm pretty hyped for this and I only just found out about it
~~Not crazy about the retro art style, but~~ The more I look at it, the more I like it, it has a kind of Euro graphic novel feel to it. I'm sure the end product will be high-quality and I'll def. watch it. I hope it's not just another reboot tho.
I like the music they picked for the teaser. GITS has had some killer music, from "Making of a Cyborg" to Cornelius' work on Arise.
I'm loving the art-style, I hope they keep it for the show!
Same! It reminds me of a lot of 90s anime. I'd love to see a modern take on those older design tropes.
I do love me some Science Saru
Not a big fan of the purely mechanical clockwork body. I always liked how the biomechanics were portrait in the series. The Major always looked small but I'm reality was an absolute beast of artificial muscle and reinforced bones underneath her facade.
Ive only glanced at the original work but assume that most of the adaptations have changed it quite a bit and am hoping that maybe this one decides to adapt it very faithfully. Certainly the old-school art direction seems interesting
Is this a remake?
Nope, brand new anime. Of course, they could still follow some storyline from the manga, I have no idea.
