I believe there's an entire megathread for this, I found it on FMHY site https://fmhy.net/gamingpiracyguide it's way down at the ROMs section. There also this one, which compiles Internet Achive and Myrient for everything related to ROMs https://r-roms.github.io/

Nopaystation, I've always found everything I need there and it is super easy to use!

Think most people just use ROM as a catch all for "console video game format" these days.

It's been used that way for years. Android system images are called ROMs too, even though they've been rewritable since the beginning.
