Modded Minecraft stays winning. Simply wait a month and play the latest update with mods that add in all the lost mobs. ๐
We love our modder comrades who make this possible
Modders proving communism would work every day lol
The way Mojang has been handling releases as of late is pretty much the worst case scenario for modding IMO
Long streches between updates that add substantive content to the game? Great! This gives modders time to build up a rich body of mods like the 1.12 scene.
Short streches between updates that have meaningful additions? Cool! Modders will have a tougher time jumping between versions or getting left behind on older ones, but interesting content makes it an okay tradeoff.
Stop official updates altogether? Fine! The community can coalesce around one definitive version and do incredible things knowing they've got all the time in the world to dig into the code.
What we have right now are somewhat frequent updates that add random doodads with next to no interaction with the core gameplay, and in exchange the mod community is constantly fractured when developers jump ship to the new version
"Oh boy! Clay pots!" Said no one in the world's history.
Yeah, as far as I'm concerned nothing added to the game since 1.19 has been meaningful enough to warrant updating out. It's a shame because I'm excited to play with the new Landlord system for Create but it might end up on a version that isn't compatible with other mods I like.
Landlord
They chose the worst possible name for a really cool system.
Never seen this emoji before, I love it lol
Also if you dont know the three mobs are
- Crabs, that give you extended reach for block placing
- Armadillo, that let you craft wolf armor
- Penguin, that make your boat fast (probably in the same way that dolphin make you swim fast?)
Sounds like crab will win. My hypothesis is that people vote on which one sounds the most useful and ignore that they could potentially add more uses for the other mobs.
Sucks to vote between qol that terraria had at launch vs speedboats.
"But how will crabs affect bed wars pvp?"
Yeah I mean, if I I'll vote for crab because I want the most immediate use. I dont think there's much room for expansion on the other two anyway.
Thanks for the list!
Curious which one interests you more.
Crabs are fun little guys and I want to see them walking around sideways. Increased reach would be helpful because the default is really short for the kind of game it is. The reach would be the easiest to change via modding, though. Assuming every sane Minecraft player plays with mods these days, crab would be least helpful.
Armadillo, I dunno, I don't really know what an armadillo is or what it does in real life. Pet wolf safety has way bigger problems than what armour would solve. They walk off cliffs or get stuck in water all the time.
Penguins also sound fun for the environment, as long as their behaviour includes running and then skating on their bellies. Very important aspect. Being amphibious would also be interesting to see. I don't care about the boat speed thing.
I think crab is my favourite. I bet we'd get some awesome meme gifs out of it too, since crab is already a meme, Minecraft crab has such good potential.
I've always had a little resent that they dangle mobs in front of us just to drop 2/3 of them (especially Moobloom, but they also keep teasing us about that one). But the fact that all three choices this year are so good makes me more outwardly angry that they aren't just doing all three. They have a year between updates, they can make three relatively simple mobs. Especially considering all three will probably be fully implemented by modders before the vote even happens.
I wish they would have stuck with the model of the old biome votes: all three will be added eventually, we're just picking what order they get added in. And of course the biome votes were also better because it was an updated biome and a new mob, now it's just a new mob.
There are also mods that add all the mobs and mob variants from the now discontinued Minecraft Earth, like this one:
https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/earth2java
I like having cool chicken variations
You might want to disable the Moobloom in one of them though since it's also covered in Friends and Foes.
I'm still miffed we missed out on copper golems
Yeah. I voted allay because it seemed the most useful for the way i play the game, but it didnt really pan out in practice. Not sure what copper golems would have been used for but it would have at least been a use for all the copper i have sitting in chests for no reason lol
Eta: at least we can all agree the glare would have been useless especially with them making the mob spawning rules gentler. I already have a mod that does what it does. It was cute tho.
Extremely minor complaint, but their presentation of the penguin's utility kinda annoyed me because it's so similar to the existing dolphin effect that it could just be bundled into the dolphin for a cleaner game design. It feels like it was tacked on to make it not seem "useless". But yeah, 100% agree with what you said.
Im going to vote penguin not because i think they are better but because i feel it will cause the most discord if it wins
What's the last version compatible with Create? My own server runs mostly vanilla, but I've been thinking of just branching off into one of these mods and mostly freezing the server.
can't choose between crab and penguin. Doesn't matter tho they're both I'm ftb lol.
