Uhh.. Did nobody check with Intel about this?

Eric literally said "πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ" when asked the same in the r/Pebble AMA today.

What a terrible response, I sure hope he doesn't have this attitude running the rest of the company

I'm excited to see refreshes of pebble hardware. I had a Fossil Hybrid HR in between my last pebble time and it's connection and app are starting to have issues so was looking for other eink watches.

Gonna snag the duo for sure and thinking about the higher up one but $225 is quite the chunk of change though it makes sense.

I am currently using the Fossil Gen 6 Hybrids and I love them! They are currently working fine, and I would like to have the new Pebble in the future. However, I don't like the square design - I would much rather have something like Pebble Time Round 2.

Can I selfhost the services the watch is using ?

The software is open source. I cannot see a reason why you cannot.

Rephrase: is the server software open source?

You can use an open source app like Gadgetbridge to connect it to your phone without any online services - if this is what you ask for. The only online service is the app store - which you don't have to use (you can locally upload any app you want).

This is great news! I imagine we'll see some negative articles focusing on how they're just re-releasing old hardware, but I feel anyone who cares about that wasn't the target market for a Pebble anyway. Hopefully it goes well and we'll see some actual new Pebbles next.
