I’m blocking so many a day I think it’s giving me carpal tunnel, and I know it will never end. Porn is more infinite than the universe. Please dear god let me block lemmy.nsfw

You can also go in your lemmy profile and check that you want to hide all NSFW posts.

[-] damnson@lemmy.world 6 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

I do have the blur/hide options checked. But perhaps some posts are bypassing the hide function? I see lots of blurred porn posts still, and of course soft core is wide open

Here have some screenshots:

[-] jeffw@lemmy.world 7 points 11 months ago

Wdym by soft core? I’ve never seen untagged nudity

Iirc you need to make the change via the web interface rather than Memmy currently.

[-] simply_surprise@lemmygrad.ml 25 points 11 months ago

Just make an account on a server that doesn't federate porn. Lemmy.ml or midwest.social don't.

Lemmygrad doesn't either, but it's understandable if it's not for you.

[-] nocturne213@lemmy.world 20 points 11 months ago

This is how I feel blocking sports too.

[-] nikt@lemmy.ca 4 points 11 months ago

Or all the shitpost meme communities… at least you can block porn with the NSFW flag.

[-] damnson@lemmy.world 2 points 11 months ago

Same tbh. Saw some “fanatical” instance I’d love to block as well. Had a sub for every sports team and I was getting flooded yesterday

You’re posting in the Memmy community. This feature has been added, at least on the TestFlight version.

[-] damnson@lemmy.world 4 points 11 months ago

I’m posting here because I use memmy. I’m just a normie here, I don’t know what TestFlight is or how to use it. I’m just going through the apple app store

[-] willya@lemmyf.uk 7 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

Oh, well know it’s added and hopefully you get to experience it on the App Store soon.

[-] damnson@lemmy.world 3 points 11 months ago

Glad to hear it, will patiently suffer until then

[-] Humble_Measures@lemmy.world 12 points 11 months ago

I'm on lemmy.world using connect and I haven't seen a single porn post? I wonder why we are having such different experiences.

[-] totallynotarobot@lemmy.world 4 points 11 months ago

Voyager and lemmy.world here. Constant porn.

No I don't want to turn off all NSFW because health/fitness and war reporting would disappear too. And it seems OP's problem is that setting isn't working in their client.

Instance blocking is absolutely required for lemmy to function, and hopefully mods will enforce keeping the incels in their own little instances.

[-] einlander@lemmy.world 3 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

~~Voyager has instance blocking.~~ No it doesn't

lemmy.blahaj.zone has defederated from lemmy.nsfw if you don't mind changing instances. The local tab has a lot of queer content tho if you're not into that (but you can just ignore that tab and use All or Subscribed, of course).

[-] OpenStars@kbin.social 6 points 11 months ago

I also am on kbin.social, and I do not even have the "Hide NSFW content" turned on, and I almost never see it. I haven't had to block anything (maybe once?), and in the <1/1000 chance it pops up, it is blurred by default.

It can randomly show up in the Active People area though.

Lemmy/Kbin is a wild, uncharted frontier, still alpha version software and very much in active development, it does not just "take care of people" like Reddit and Twitter did - you may want to not browse it at work then. Also, even if you successfully blocked every single porn magazine, as you see a new one could come up and blow up your entire All feed at any point in time -> that approach was never going to be 100% successful.

So it may be worth the pain of switching to Kbin, b/c that will work? Note that you will lose everything that way - account migration is something promised but not yet implemented iirc - but you can still see all of the communities you subscribed to before, from the new server (you will just have to subscribe to all of them again, plus block all the others, like I unsub from every foreign-language one that I see).

[-] platysalty@kbin.social 3 points 11 months ago

I know right? What the hell? I've been on kbin for weeks and I barely saw a titty. I need to go create an alternate lemmy account

[-] CheshireSnake@iusearchlinux.fyi 1 points 11 months ago

I'm on lemmy and i don't see porn. I'm honestly trying to remember if I've ever seen one on this account. Probably instance-related.

Wait until the weebs come here, and you have to block every subreddit for every character for every anime ever released.

[-] damnson@lemmy.world 4 points 11 months ago

I’ve already started that on here lmao. At least this time I’m getting a head start

Man idk what people are doing or if it's because I am on lemmy.ml but man I never see or hardly ever porn communities. And I don't have it blocked.

EDIT: It seems one of the rules of lemmy.ml is "No Porn" so I am gonna guess that that's why. I mean that would apply to their communities but I guess they might be blocking the ones from other communities that have porn aswell.

[-] gkd@lemmy.ml 4 points 11 months ago

Been gone for a few days but I am back. We have added filtering of whole instances so you'll be able to do this now.

[-] bcrab@lemmy.world 4 points 11 months ago

It needs to be easier to block those communities.

I hate having to tap into a community in order to block it. If I don’t wanna see that shit, I definitely don’t want to have to see MORE of it in order to block it.

We should be able to long press on a post or community name from the main feed, and be able to block the community from that popup menu.

[-] infix@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago

I wonder if blocklists could become a thing to solve this

[-] Delphia@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago

I think one of the bigger problems with the fediverse is that theres no way to mass filter content.

By default/main language would be a big one, porn second.

[-] bcrab@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago

Language filtering would be damn helpful

[-] sunbunman@lemm.ee 2 points 11 months ago

There's literally a toggle in the account settings that toggles whether you see nsfw posts lol

[-] Xabis@lemmy.world 4 points 11 months ago

It doesn’t work.

It hasn’t worked since 0.1.0 released.

[-] sunbunman@lemm.ee 2 points 11 months ago

I haven't seen a single NSFW post since I've toggled it off. I have had to block a couple bot accounts that have been posting porn in comments, but that is a mod issue, not a Lemmy one.

[-] Xabis@lemmy.world 2 points 11 months ago

Yeah, not sure. More than likely an intermittent or environment specific bug.

For me, nsfw content appears in my thread despite the toggle being enabled. It also appears blurred so it’s not like Memmy doesn’t know about it or anything.

I’ve reinstalled the app as well and that doesn’t help.

I guess I could just turn it off at the account level but there are sometimes nsfw content that isn’t straight porn. Even spoilers are marked as such and I would miss those posts. Which is why an instance blocking mechanism would be great.

[-] damnson@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

Already have them both toggled thanks

[-] adespoton@lemmy.ca 2 points 11 months ago

Why not just change the instance you’re a member of. A number of them have a no porn policy, so it all gets filtered at the instance level.

[-] Silverseren@kbin.social 2 points 11 months ago

I...haven't seen a single one. Is this a Lemmy thing? I'm on Kbin.social.

[-] LostCause@kbin.social 1 points 11 months ago

Hide nsfw is checked by default and even if we uncheck it, we can hide instances, so it kinda is a lemmy thing yeah.

i thought it was kinda silly when reddit blocked porn from the all & popular but holy shit do i appreciate it now. i’ve never seen my feed as bad as this. i’m getting so much that i will have 2-3 posts in a row from the same community.
