News and Discussions about Reddit

Welcome to !reddit. This is a community for all news and discussions about Reddit.

The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

Rules

Rule 1- No brigading.

**You may not encourage brigading any communities or subreddits in any way. **

YSKs are about self-improvement on how to do things.

Rule 2- No illegal or NSFW or gore content.

**No illegal or NSFW or gore content. **

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Posts and comments which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding META posts.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-Reddit posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

Rule 7- You can't harass or disturb other members.

If you vocally harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here. This includes using AI responses and summaries.

MODERATORS

Like Accelerationism, but in social media. If we do that, what remains of reddit will be the worst of the worse racists and nazis. Therefore, reddit will have the same reputation as twitter, and thus, no one would want to advertise on there anymore.

I mean, you can't just say "spez is a nazi" because the neoliberals would just say you are "over-reacting".

So how about we just go all the way and make the place too toxic even for neoliberals?

Think of this like 5d chess, and recruitment for Lemmy.

The mods and admins of reddit have been doing this for years. No need to help them.

[–] TheFANUM@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

This is a terrible idea

[–] venotic@kbin.melroy.org 5 points 1 day ago

This is fucking dumb.

[–] Skullgrid@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

no, you'll just be propogating propaganda.

you want to spread shock images to achieve your goal. make the internet actually toxic again

Isn't that how The_Donald and flat earth conspiracy theories started? As just a very funny joke that was then co-opted...?

If i remember right "it's just a joke" posting is part of the ult right recruiting playbook.

[–] NeonNight@lemm.ee 4 points 1 day ago

Yes absolutely. “Ironic” communities were visited by people who didn’t know they were ironic and took it as sincere. Too many people acquire their political opinions through shitposts “for the luls” and now we have conservatives cheering about how much of a “troll” Trump is when they should be concerned that our most important institutions are being dismantled to “own the libs”. No one takes anything serious anymore and I don’t think the solution to that is more absurdity.

[–] criss_cross@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

That's how a lot of shitty communities started.

GamersRiseUp was a parody community until actual racists joined and weren't in on the joke. Then the joke got lost.

All this would do is just fuel the actual right wing nut jobs.

[–] Chozo@fedia.io 20 points 1 day ago

I think that'll just be fuel for the audience Reddit wants to keep.

I mean it's not ethical and might make things worse 🤔 the creation of insane group think is how we ended up here

[–] Rentlar@lemmy.ca 19 points 1 day ago

It's unethical, I suppose you could do it, but imo the same amount of time would be better spent making Lemmy better in some way, posting more about stuff you like or if you are using Reddit helping people migrate (I would but I can't go back on my pledge to myself never to contribute to Reddit ever again).

[–] protist@mander.xyz 12 points 1 day ago

You say this like you just invented trolling, but reddit is already filled with similar content

[–] southsamurai@sh.itjust.works 10 points 1 day ago

I'm gonna be really blunt here in the hopes that you take it in the spirit it's intended rather than an attack.

But it isn't important if it's ethical, because it's stupid. It's a pointless endeavour and if you aren't better than that, you should try to be.

[–] TokenEffort@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It could be funny like how absurd could you be without getting found out

[–] technocrit@lemmy.dbzer0.com 0 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Apparently people can go very far without being exposed. Just ask q-anon.

[–] TokenEffort@sh.itjust.works 1 points 20 hours ago

Reminds me of trolls on parler and those fringe far gone conservative sites

[–] arotrios@lemmy.world 0 points 1 day ago

This is how Qanon started...
