Did they go somewhere? I remember having lock screen widgets back in like 2014.

Edit: oh yeah, the article says, "bringing back a feature it had scrapped nearly a decade ago". Guess I didn't notice because I never used them.

But they can access the widgets.

im fine with potentially giving strangers the ability to activate the flashlight or putting my phone in silent mode
