It's almost like atheists base morals and ethics off humanity and not fear of retribution

I think a given Christian, confronted with the directive with killing an innocent person directly (say by shooting them in the face with a pistol) would find it difficult, even if their minister told them God commanded them to do so.

Our ethics are mostly based on feelings and empathy, though we have a lot that are based on principle. The MAGA folk and the White Christian Nationalist movement try to favor loyalty (to Trump, to the church, to the movement) above all else.

The Russians invading Ukraine are predominantly Christian / The Crusades / The systematic destruction of the Mayan culture & language / the cultural destruction caused in greece. There are so many examples that religion/Christianity does NOT teach peace, it teaches obedience.

The "Just War Cause" was created by St. Augustine if I remember. The criteria to make war justified was 1. "Do we have the right to go to war" and 2. "Do we conduct ourselves correctly at war".

2 isn't even a criteria if you haven't performed it yet.. We promise we aren't going to rape enslave or torture them. Oh wait we did it anyways but you know, we didn't think we were going to before it started so we can't take it back now.

Why does war happen, money and greed. Who is God? Money and greed. Why do we kill our brethren, because God Wills It

A true deity is a deity with or without anyone's belief in them. The only reason for what we know as a "deity" to require stupid rules like "worship me, hold no others above me" would have been to force moronic cave dwellers to try to learn to act in a social civilized manner by fearing retribution if they didn't, the only possible other reason is because they aren't actually a deity and simply another mortal sentient on a power trip because it feels good to be adored and have people terrified at your feet. There really isn't an inbetween, true immortals would find constant worship really fucking boring, so it would need to serve a purpose, the only creatures that would really enjoy being worshipped are mortals that will never live long enough to see how tedious and fucking boring it becomes "oh look, here comes jimothy again with a list of things he did bad, a pile of exotic fruit, and a jingle he made... I hope the jingles funny, I am so damn bored, and I've had all the fruit so many times it's not exotic, just common... Or maybe that's his son danjemin.. Hard to tell, the names changes but the faces..." True immortals would rejoice in the individuals true uniqueness because it would be one of the few things that is mostly fresh per person, they wouldn't care for the most part about things you did wrong because fucking everyone does bad shit, just be your best unique self, and try to do good, cuz everything else is just a fuckin repeating cycle.

I've been eating potatoes for my whole life and I still haven't got bored of them. Maybe worship is like potatoes.

This. Or perhaps it works like the ori in Stargate, where the worship and belief in their divinity is a source of power. The more people worship them, the more powerful they are (compared to the "atheist" gods they split with some millennia ago).

Or maybe it's like sex. People don't usually get bored of sex.

Unless it's like in American Gods. 🤷

[–] Muaddib@sopuli.xyz 3 points 13 hours ago

It's also like that in Dungeons and Dragons

I also said "Hey, that's me", but I think we mean 2 very different things.
