MODERATORS

The media has gone bananas over this Florida man on a carnivore diet who was eating 6 – 9 pounds of beef, butter and cheese daily and started “oozing” cholesterol from his skin. Is this this real report? Or is it problematic propaganda. In six minutes, I’ll reveal to you the real problem that this report brings to light. And, spoiler alert, the problem isn’t the meat.

One commentator said I, personally, was inconsolable over this case study. Let's see how a professional researcher breaks it down.

And here's me thinking we had a limit of how much fat we can eat, too much being sickening

I guess either this guy has that system broken or dairy bypasses it

Edit. I see it's not a good report at all and perhaps the man lied, or the person who made the report wasn't entirely accurate

Yeah, there is a puzzle here, most people would feel so full that they couldn't eat 10lbs of fat.

This case report, and the media frenzy around it have demonstrated how politicized the nutrition space has become. Surely we can blame media a bit for creating sensational headlines, but clearly there is an agenda to vilify LCHF/Carnivore by any means necessary.

One of the earlier lemmy discussions about this: https://hackertalks.com/post/6184904

You can see from the tone of conversation, there were people who only wanted to knock down other people's medical interventions rather then deal with the science of this case report.

NOBODY SHOULD BE EATING 10lbs of butter per day! THATS CRAZY

As Nick said "Propaganda to get them clicks and targeted against a stigmatized extreme dietary pattern that doesn't align with what the status quo deems as "normal" or "healthy"".. i.e. not science.

Lol, here is the entire case report, that I couldn't find for the earlier discussion.

40 y/o man, 3 week history of asymptomatic yellowish nodules on palms, soles, and elbows. 8 months of reported carnivore. 9lbs of cheese, sticks of butter, and extra fat into his daily hamburgers. Patient reported weight loss, increased energy, and improved mental clarity. TC > 1000 mg/dL, vs previous baseline of 210-300mg/dL. Xanthelasma was diagnosed.

That is it, That is the entire fucking case report. But damn, he lost weight eating 30,000 calories per day? that is interesting

Xanthelasma

Quotes from various medical professionals Nick gathered on this case study:

"If I wrote that report as a first-year medical student my attending would have cut off my balls"

"This case report is so sloppy the should put it between burger buns and call it a sloppy joe"

"Where is that nun from game of thrones with the "shame" bell?"

"I'm no carnivore, but dang it, if this isn't a feather in the carnivore community's cap. Is this really JAMA CARDIOLOGY?"
