NFL replay assist is expected to expand this offseason into plays that could include the quarterback slide, sources told ESPN.

This is just PR bs. Too little too late, and I doubt it will make any difference anyway. They had the ability to overturn those two bs RTP penalties in the last game and did nothing.

Beginning in 2024, the league expanded replay assist to add additional areas in which information could be provided when there was a penalty flag already on the field, including fouls for hits heading out of bounds, fouls for blows to the head of a quarterback

So what I'm getting from this is that the two most egregious calls that Mahomes got his usual gift for could have been overturned under current league rules? So why didn't replay assist chime in for either?

As far as I've seen penalties have never been able to be challenged or reviewed to see if they were correctly called. Seems like they’re going to make that a possibility for “replay assist” to take a look at. Hopefully it doesn’t end up like the pass interference challenging rule that they added a few years back when the officials overwhelmingly decided to ignore by just staying with the call on the field.

QBs that cross the line of scrimmage should lose their protections. You wanna run, you take the risk. You wanna stay safe, remain behind the line.

Agreed. Maybe modify the slide rule that you are not protected until you are completely on the ground (e.g. at least one shoulder touching the turf). This would push QBs to slide much earlier.

Mahomes is a bigger crybaby than Brady was and almost always gets what he wants.
